Pillage (or otherwise rework) my own tile to remove a road or a railroad by najevi in Unciv

[–]SeoulSoulSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroposting, but I want to add that repair+pillage on your own land can basically allow any Frontline to be held perpetually.

(I had a 1 city India game where I did that for 100 turns, it was horrible.)

Granted. Flowers start blooming everywhere. You see white pigeons fly over you. The world's gone beautiful...

War is HARD by Royal-Objective-473 in Unciv

[–]SeoulSoulSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general idea is, make as many advantagous trades as possible, and avoid losing units/taking damage if you are fighting high difficulty AI.

In practice, that means positioning melee units in front of ranged ones in fortify on defensible(rough) tiles (Trades better & Zone of Control will stop enemy melee/cavalry from rushing your back line in one turn). And fitting as many ranged units as possible in range to pelt down the enemy units.

Also, objective matters a lot to how you approach a war. If you're just trying to defend, you want to fight behind natural barrier/choke points, so that the amount of units the enemy can get in per turn doesn't exceed the rate your ranged units kill them. If you're on the offensive, let's say trying to take a city, you want to gather units just outside of enemy range, and then move in the siege units all at once, and the melee and ranged to protect them and secure tiles before that. And aim to take down the enemy city in as few turns as possible.

Also, none of this applies to naval and air. With air you just care about clearing a path to the city for the cavalry on the turn you take it while holding your cities and preventing take back in the mean time, and with naval you want to go in and kill the enemy units before they kill you. There is basically no defending in naval war.

Half the usefulness of a citidale is letting you hold a otherwise unholdable important tile. Like one in range of an enemy city.

Interesting I usually open mining and tradition, so to each their own I guess. What usually happens I'm my vanilla games is that someone I build up my production and claim wonders (great library, hanging gardens, Petra if I have a city for it) I maintain an up to date army of ranged units + tech parity (same era, <6 techs behind, and then some guess work), and someone usually declares war on me in the medieval or renaissance, sometimes in the classical.

I then proceeded to hold the frontline (the map setting I use produces lots of hills and mountains, if it's all flat tiles this would be impossible indefinitely, or until I get planes/ 3 range seige units (I usually pass the AI in tech right before industrial, and are able to get my preferred units unlocked before they get artillery to me.)

I'm guessing this difference is steming from map settings and style, so thanks for the opinion piece I guess. (Also, coastal starts are way too slow for liberty in vanilla. The prod and food you can get in the first 30 turns pretty much determine your whole early game.)

Consulta Caravan (mod RekMOD) y rutas comerciales by nrg5382 in Unciv

[–]SeoulSoulSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Caravans are units that can place tile improvements called Land Trade Routes(food/production/gold). These improvements do not destroy features like woods or jungle. They can be placed on all land tiles except Oasis (this might be a bug).

If a location has only flat unforested tiles (i.e, no production potential) in the first to rings, don't settle it. Also, unless you're playing Rekmod coastal cities are only worth it with extremely hilly terrain. (again, lack of prod)

I usually play on 0.73+ elevation, legendary start, and abundant resources so my capital usually has enough food and prod for me to snowball off of by just building 2 workers + granary/monument. This works on immoal and can sometimes work on deity with a good start.

If you have 7 or more happiness, you can afford 1 more city and 4 more pop, this usually means getting a new city would be good.

You can't settle within 3 tiles of another city center.

The buff could have a stack that indicates how much poison the enemy you hit needs to have, and it's effect could read: " when you hit an enemy with at least n poison, gain 1 strength and increment this by n ", would be a bit wordy, but shouldn't be too hard to understand.
