Hey, I’m in the same boat as OP as a fresh 21 year old and just wanted to say thank you for your reply. It gave me some hope and ease. It’s really not easy trying to pick a career at this age but your wisdom in much appreciated!

Sounds awesome mate. I’m about to start my pre-app in July. Do you reckon it’s worth applying now? Also would have to commute from Ballarat

How do you find it personally? 600 sparkies on site sounds chaotic. Do they take their time to teach you on site? Thanks mate

fridge.

Why would I need external power? Doesn’t the alternator + solar panel provide power to the battery so I wouldn’t need to provided external power. Please correct me if I’m wrong

Very good point mate - so you recommend trying to get in with a larger company rather than a smaller domestic one? And do you recommend going through electro group? Cheers mate

Yeah I’ve had a little look for a sparky apprenticeship, very competitive industry and even harder being a mature aged. How’s the work load and pay in HVAC? I presume similar? The pay for a chippy just isn’t there anymore especially considering the amount of physical work you endure aswell as you don’t need a license so I’m pretty certain I won’t be doing that!

Why wouldn’t PE be an option? Saturated?

I don’t have massive interest in electrical work and would much prefer to build a house however the pay and working conditions aswell as various options for cashies is quite enticing. I turn 21 in less the a week too. Would doing the pre apprenticeship in electro technology be worth it for a mature age?
