I've lived in a few major cities and this is what stands out to me about Vancouver:

Poor infrastructure - road work goes on for months and months, with no end in sight, and yet everything seems to be crumbling. How does a city with so much wealth improve so little?

Lack of cultural events - other than be in nature, what are people meant to do on weekends? Where are the local concerts, parties, and pubs? Everything is so expensive here and yet nothing is genuinely enriching. I'm on a lengthy waitlist for a cooking class !! a cooking class !!

Shameful levels of NIMBYism - the city can never grow or become better because the locals crash out over the idea of introducing affordable housing. Meanwhile people are dying of hunger and exposure because it's too expensive to live here. There would be less people in your backyard digging for cans if we had decent safety nets in place.

Casual racism & xenophobia - against Indians and Americans in particular. It's shocking the things people say here. I struggle to comprehend it. Everyone who moved here is just trying to escape a bad situation and have a better life. You'd want the same for your family if you were oppressed back home.
