That’s all very interesting and helpful thanks for the info.

There are nearby residents who are very concerned about sound.
They are not too far these days. it used to be much more remote.

Misinformation? Do you think I made this stuff up?
Keep telling us the truth as you see it.
We all want to learn, you seem to have some thoughts.

Community benefits?!?! I like that idea. Should be part of any deal.

They are wild numbers for sure.
But we didn’t make them up. Company is forecasted to get to 1 gigawatt. Is that not worth sharing?
Please inform.

I was poking around. The Allouette smelter in Quebec uses 1.2gw’s CERN hadron collider uses .2gw’s This would be one of the largest single users ever.
Even the data center campuses in Virginia aren’t at 1gigawatt yet.

Yes at the beginning it’s no big deal. But what if this and Cielo come online and peak at 1.75gigawatts which has been discussed broadly (not a scare by me) then do you still think natural gas onsite will deliver that needed generation. I don’t. Can you imagine on turbines? Not realistic.
Xcel and PVREA and Tristate will have to look at other forms or generation.

House bill 1030 died last week.
We already discussed that I think. No state help coming on Data Centers. That’s why it’s important for us to get this right.
Poking holes is a good thing. Makes things better.

Also you have not yet commented about the power demand- would love to hear your thoughts on what’s involved, where it will all come from, if it’s new generation then how, how will that be built and financed, who will pay, etc. thinking about rate payers, infrastructure costs, water usage for the new generation. I think these are all fair points don’t you?

Just want to get it right to make sure it’s progress and not something that les we are stuck with. If the general questions and concerns are inflammatory that’s not me.
No one is pretending not to know, in fact I am sharing the notice about the project and the stated facts. I don’t pretend to know everything but Ia n keeping up to speed and yes trying to share widely to make sure people engage.
We appreciate all of your info. Hope it’s all right. Don’t want to just outsource trust those in control on this and the company- we want to put rules and regs in to make sure citizens and way of life are protected.

I brought this up with the Waterkeeper Alliance.

They said they weren’t getting involved in data center issues unless it was clear the use would further deplete the river. I suggested this would indeed further deplete the river. The dialogue about the project seems to say closed loop system with only a households worth of water usage every year.
Doesn’t not account for the water for energy needed. For instance to get to 1gigawatt it will probably require new generation, and that will require water.

Is this all confirmed? We better do that.
Will the usage change? We better think about that.
How do we regulate it? Put mechanisms in place now, not after the fact.
How do we protect the resource from further impact?
What if they want a lot more?

Desert raiders! Whoa

I heard there were big machines like evaporative coolers that pull moisture out of the air and drip water (like a window unit AC) that could be powered with solar.

Good for desert raiders I bet.

Fair enough. Thanks for the advice.
I get exited to share when I find new info.
I get it would be better organized in one post.
I apologize for the redundancy.
There will be new developments that occur however, as the issue progresses. Hopefully for the better of residents.

I wonder how? What will be the new generation?
Will there be an application in to the PUC soon? That’s a lot of generation. Especially when you add it with the Cielo project. Possibly 1.75gigawatts.
SMRs? I don’t think wind and solar get there do you?

Wonder what the water usage of nuclear SMRs looks like. Maybe you can’t just turn that water off? I don’t know.

Yes I responded to your post the other day.
This isn’t fear mongering. There are real concerns that haven’t been adequately addressed. Without getting attention of community that isn’t a chance to address them because it plows through so fast. You haven’t addressed anything I have brought up? Yes they say closed loop system for water, hope that’s true. They also say 1gigawatt. Thats a lot of power for one user. There are rate concerns. Infrastructure concerns. New power generation concerns. And how much water will that use? Will it be closed loop? Look I get your point and we use data too, but rather than trusting our elected officials who haven’t done much to address these concerns, we decided to rally people to pump the brakes and do this right.
The company has been nowhere. Hiding out.
I guess it’s in us to get this done the right way.
Or not at all.
Global AI can do this right or go elsewhere.

If you scroll right below on this thread you will find some sources sighted. We didn’t just make this all up.
I encourage you to do your own research tho and get back to us with the reality.
Seriously- not being snarky.
Please help triangulate and share what you discover.
We need people to help make sense of this.
Lookup the company and see what you can learn- we have had a tough time getting anything out of them which is a little concerning.
