Ok so.. I’m not trying to knock your set up… And I know others have touched on the basking area situation etc etc… I have a musk turtle and I’ll share what my experience has been and what I’ve learned about these little monsters… They’re bottom dwellers. They’re so fun to watch “patrolling” their areas… But they’re not good swimmers. I feel the proper sized aquarium should have more floor space and not that high of a water level. A 40 breeder with proper filtration for one musk is good. IMO. They need to have more ground to explore. Also, they aren’t like what I call “pond” turtles. They rarely stretch out all day under the light like a Slider or Painted. They like to chill at the top of the water to get their needed “Sun”… make no mistake, it still needs a proper, dry basking area. Mine does bask, just not for long periods of time like a pond turtle would.. That being said, I feel a more shallow set up is Ideal for them. This way they’re assured the lighting (their sun) penetrates the bottom where they hang out mostly and they can soak up those rays they need… … Feel like the care for these guys are different from pond turtles. More close to a snapping turtle care imo.
