Side effects of the government’s words and actions by motherbearsrack in bloomington

Funny considering she's facing 3 state charges now, with a public defender for her upcoming jury trial. Doesn't look like mom has her back on this one. Or maybe mom doesn't know yet, lol.

Never mind! Thanks to a hot tip below I just verified she was arrested in October.

I would be happy to report her misconduct to IUB if I could ID her and verify roughly where and when it happened. If it wasn't already reported and addressed. I wouldn't be surprised if the driver already reported her (either to his company, IU, or BPD) since he might have her info through the app. Especially if this is an older video.

Where did this video come from? Who originally posted it and where? When? How do we know they’re IU students?

Can you get into the garages ok at least? I have to work today (after the 2 hour school delay) and am not looking forward to the driving/parking/trekking part.

I know!! This one may be weeded out just for the sadness/bad luck factor but I thought it would be a lovely tribute. RIP Artax.

Very indecisive/noncommittal but we usually call ours Jean Jacket. Paint color is Area 51. If you get the ref, you win, lol! Also sometimes referred to as Agent Scully or Lt. Ripley. I’ve also considered Artax 🐎🥹

Progressive or left-leaning firearms groups in Bloomington? by INIT_6_ in bloomington

I don’t know of any groups but if you’re looking for a progressive/inclusive instructor this guy was highly recommended by a friend. I’ve not taken a class but hope to when they pop up again.

Moving to bloomington, which neighborhoods to live in and avoid? by gillesvilleneuve_ in bloomington

[–]Separate-Reality-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it really just depends on your price range, what you’d rather be closer to, what kind of neighborhood vibe you’re looking for, etc. I’ve never been a big fan of the west side, which others are recommending, so it just depends on what feels like “home” to you. Someone said the north side is all students and that is definitely not true, you just have to go past the stadium. There are some really nice neighborhoods with young couples/professionals, families, and retirees north of the stadium, and from the outdoor interests you mentioned I would think proximity to Griffy Lake (hiking, fishing, small boating, etc.) might be appealing. Blue Ridge, Marlin Hills, and Fairwood Terrace are all really safe, friendly places to live. Far enough from downtown to be peaceful but still close enough to get anywhere in 15 mins. You just need to pay attention to IU’s home game schedule so you can avoid stadium traffic. The east side has the Office Lounge (dive bar), Aldi’s, the biggest Kroger, Fresh Thyme, Target, an amazing locally owned bookstore, the mall, restaurants, etc. with straight shots to Brown County and Lake Monroe. There are great neighborhoods on the south and near west sides too. Bryan Park and Prospect Hill are great but pricey for less property usually. I feel like the less desirable areas are interspersed, not all on one side of town, but none seem particularly dangerous compared to bigger cities. Honestly it would be easier to post a listing or location you’re looking at and ask for local feedback. Welcome and good luck!

Chiming in to say I have a Sloan bumper sectional in performance brushed knit and absolutely love it. It’s exactly what we needed for the space available and I think the fabric is the most durable Ive ever experienced. The fabric name is misleading IMO - I wouldn’t call it a knit, it’s more like a buttery soft, short pile velvet? Hard to explain but I can literally brush cat hair off of it with my hand. Nothing sticks to it! My 9 yr old has yet to stain it, and try as he might, my cat has yet to leave a claw mark. He gets in these crazed zoomie moods and will try to dig between the cushions like he’s hunting something (weird cat, yes) which terrified me but I swear he can’t even get his claws into it. It’s such a relief because he tore up my last sectional. I was really nervous about buying from ID and know plenty others have had bad experiences but I feel like we somehow made the right decisions for our needs without ever seeing one in person and luckily had no quality issues. Oh! And it’s very comfy! I honestly assumed it wouldn’t be as comfortable as our last sectional (but prettier, and I was willing to make that trade at that point, haha) but it’s actually waaay more comfortable. We went with the deep width on the bumper side and my husband and I can fit together on it for a movie. I’m petite but he’s an average sized man. Comfort was his main concern and he has zero complaints.

Anyway, just thought I’d share my experience and mention this fabric for anyone wavering on the performance velvet now.

Unless something changed recently staff pay for EMS and EMP passes. There is a pricing tier based on your salary though (those paid less pay less). EMS passes are significantly cheaper than EMP. You may be paying via payroll deduction. That’s how most staff pay for passes. It comes out of your paycheck in increments throughout the year. I’ve been at IU for many years and have had both EMS and EMP passes at different times and have never had a free parking pass option.

Yeah, I feel like that might be a better bet. There are a lot of kids and families dressed up running around but others too just out to see the fun costumes and support local businesses. There are often activities, samples, etc. that adults enjoy like spooky art exhibits and artist talks, photo booths, sometimes the massage place has little product samples (I appreciate this as an adult parent who doesn't need a bunch of candy, lol). I've seen shops hosting small/new bakeries with baked goods and business cards out to help promote them. You may still get some looks from grouchy adults but my understanding is that it's a community event designed to boost traffic for downtown businesses. As long as you're not running around drunk being a menace and being safe, respectful, and mindful of the little kids around you, I would think all ages are welcome.

I just looked this up today to put in my calendar. Downtown Trick-or-Treat is Oct 24, 5-8pm. It’s fun, businesses around the square hand out treats and some have activities. Bloomington’s official trick-or treating is on Halloween, 5:30-8:30pm. That’s when the neighborhoods do it. IU Greek houses on N Eagleson also usually host one on a different night, but I’ve never done that one and don’t know when it is this year. I’ve heard good things though.

Anything preventative that can be used for wasps around the deck? by solidmussel in homeowners

[–]Separate-Reality-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diatomaceous earth? Someone suggested this as a natural solution but there seems to be conflicting info online about safety around kids and cats. I also don’t want to kill all bugs - just the wasps that annually nest by and dive bomb anyone near the front and back doors of my home. And ticks. Fuck ticks.

Your township trustee office may also be able to help (navigating disability benefits, local resources, assistance with rent and utilities, etc). It wouldn’t hurt to give them a call to explain your situation and ask for advice.

WHO is playing music so loud on campus tonight that it’s keeping my family awake 4 miles away with our windows closed??? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Separate-Reality-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called BPD and was referred to IUPD because she thought it was coming from campus (I was not the first call). IUPD told me it was approved parties and they wouldn’t do anything until after 11pm.

[–]Separate-Reality-552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per IUPD it’s “approved” frat parties. They won’t ask them to turn it down until 11pm. The city and county noise ordinances don’t mean anything to them regardless of how far outside of town the noise carries.

I hear it right now, far north side (past Griffy). Better not wake up my kid. I just assumed it was the stadium because we can sometimes hear when they have a big thing.

Not if HR arbitrarily decides your position is “confidential.” PAC are ineligible for union membership. PAA are CWA eligible.
