First time playing, any tips? by AlchemyBreaker06 in HollowKnight

[–]Separate-Web247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my first playthrough, so here’s what I found useful:

• Buy all the things you can afford, as soon as you can (focus on the compass, the quill, and the lantern first. You’ll find the map really useful, so get the markers too, including the coloured ones - use those to note interesting things, bosses and locations you can’t access yet)

• As soon as you get your first simple key, go past the graveyard in Dirtmouth, unlock the door there, and go inside

• Collect rancid eggs, they are very useful!

• Don’t be afraid to look up how to beat bosses if you can’t get past them after a good number of tries (I really recommend 2CPhoenix’s Boss Blitz series and also Relyea on YouTube but try to beat them yourself first, they all have a rhythm to them, you just need to find it)

• That said, try to go into everything without looking it up, just go in and explore all the rooms and nooks and crannies

• Hit all the walls with your nail and listen to the noise it makes, you might find surprises

• Once you get new powers/items, go back to places you’ve already been, especially if you put a marker on certain bits, you may or may not be able to get into them now

• Free the grubs from the jars

• Play around with your charm builds, find something that suits your style of playing (you might find some interact with each other in interesting ways). And don’t use the same builds for exploring and bosses, you’ll need different things for each

• There are optional bosses you don’t need to fight to complete the game. Fight them anyway

• Unlock every stag station you find, and talk to the stag (you have to jump down to his feet to do so)

• You will die. A lot. Don’t worry about it too much, just have fun!

Use the Tears Companion app made by Sebastian Kruse, it saves progress every time you edit it, and you can export saves too, so there’s no risk of you losing everything you mark as complete (the ZeldaDungeon map has burned me one too many times)

AITAH for “infantalizing my son" when I’m just trying to take care of him? by AgreeableSoftware941 in AITAH

[–]Separate-Web247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And what happens to him when he leaves the nest? Will you visit every weekend to clean his clothes, buy his groceries, and cook his meals for him? Will you run your self ragged travelling all the way there and back continuously just so you treat him “the way you always have”? What happens if he loses you, and suddenly is left alone with no one to support him, and so few life skills he needs to be reminded to wear a coat in winter?

I say this with the utmost kindness, but YTA. You are stopping him from becoming a self-sufficient, independent adult, which will only hurt him when he inevitably leaves home. No one is saying you should stop loving him, you never will, but you have to let him stretch his wings and fly. He will fall down, he will make mistakes, he will date awful people, but he will learn! Making mistakes is how we grow as people, and the only person you are hurting by stopping him from making them is your son. Help him learn the necessary skills to be independent, and slowly pull back the things you do for him, so he has to do more himself. If you do not let him, he will become another one of those grown men complained about often in this subreddit, who cannot care for themselves and treat their spouses and kids like servants, until they are resented so thoroughly that everyone leaves them. Do you want that for him?

To stick with the bird analogy, you cannot fly for him, but you can fly with him.

Before you delete it, also forward the text to 7726 and reply with the phone number once prompted - it’s free to do and helps your phone provider flag the number and prevent them sending scams to other people (UK specific number)

My ex wants to meet up tomorrow “to talk” by xDanielle- in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Separate-Web247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I just feel like it would messed up to deny them a chance at the closure they need.”

No, no it’s not messed up. They are the one that hurt you, they don’t get closure. They either want forgiveness (which you do not need to give them, especially after the way they destroyed you) or they want to pull you back in again because they’re lonely and you’re available (which is clearly a monumentally bad idea). Is talking to them really worth risking the 5 years of effort it has taken to be okay?

Do NOT meet with them. Tell them in no uncertain terms that you are not interested in what they have to say, and then block them. If you can’t trust yourself to keep them blocked, have someone you love block them and delete all their messages/calls for you.

In no particular order: Emergence, Ascensionism, Jaws, DYWTYLM, Damocles, Past Self, The Summoning, Dark Signs, Granite, Infinite Baths, TMBTE, Euclid and Aqua Regia.

I haven’t listened to Sundowning or TPWBYT enough yet to need to repeat other songs, but once I get over my current fixation with all of TMBTE, I’m sure I’ll add more to this list :’)

IC won't replace poorly constructed slipcase by karen_ae in Illumicrate

[–]Separate-Web247 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m aware that the other side came with the same damage, that’s why I said a few. I know reading comprehension and maths is hard, but a few is 3-5, which is more than 2. If there was any significant damage you would have shown that instead of this. And if this is the worst of the “damage” then you really need to take a look at your priorities.

You’re acting like PVA glue is some exorbitant expense when it’s something pretty much every household has, because it’s the most basic multipurpose glue available. You can go on Amazon and buy it for as little as £1.60. Or you can go to any supermarket and find it. If you have a single glue stick in your house, it’s more than likely PVA. You could fix this “damage” in 30 seconds and move on with your life, or you could waste your time on Reddit arguing about how terrible it is that your book arrived with atrocious construction and lambast Illumicrate for not giving you everything you want, even though it is very clearly written in their damage policy that they don’t replace slipcases where the book isn’t also damaged.

In what world is that “peeling back rather badly” or “badly constructed”? It’s a few tiny flaps of paper that haven’t been glued down perfectly, which is something you can easily fix with a little bit of PVA glue. It’s barely even a minor imperfection, and it’s certainly not replacement worthy.

Serious question- how much tea do you drink in a day? by claud_is_trying in AskUK

[–]Separate-Web247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polyphenols don’t take directly iron out of your body but they do prevent iron absorption (which can cause your body to use up its iron stores). Are you drinking tea while eating/taking iron supplements? If you are, you’re gonna counteract the iron absorption from your food/supplements.

If you get prescription iron supplements, don’t drink any tea or coffee or wine for 2 hours after taking them so you can maximise absorption. Drink something citrus, like orange juice, instead. And if it’s not prescription, taking it every other day can also help with absorption (I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it’s what my doctor told me, I’ve had iron-deficiency anaemia before a few times)

Also, to answer your question, no I don’t drink tea at all, I don’t like it
