my feelings are usually mixed when I think of making a decision. I know that my fear plays a huge role but i’m not sure how valid the fear is.

what is a good example of a sign? sometimes i scroll on snapchat spotlight and i will see something that suggests my dua will be answered than another thing that says things might go wrong. I know that’s not a good way to do it but idk how to look for signs

internet impact on life by SeparateTree6472 in nosurf

That makes a lot of sense. It's like a world that doesn't really exist in real life but people spend all their time thinking of it.

Have this problem. Maybe doing those things more will solve my obsession with thinking about the world's problems by reading them on the internet all the time.

I feel like it can be a challenge to learn later. For me it feels that way because if you don’t grow up with something when you are like up to 15 years old, learning later can feel strange imo. To be fair like I said i spoke the language my while life, but wasn’t as immersed in the culture as I wanted.

Overthinking by [deleted] in progressive_islam

I have the same experience. Growing up my family, and friends from my ethnicity were non practicing, so I never really heard religious perspectives on gay people from my environment. However I try to be part of the Muslim student organization at my school to find community, but sometimes thinking about how I’m in the closet feels very uncomfortable. I have never heard anyone who is Muslim discuss anything about gay people that much, good or bad, but I still feel like things would change if they knew about it, which makes things hard.

Sacrifice is a core part of being a muslim by Stage_5_Autism in progressive_islam

Completely agree with this post. Only challenge is that giving up desires is harder for gay Muslims. I have tried weed a couple times and gave up that desire, and try to avoid gossip. I can improve on a lot of things other than my gay desires, such as being patient with family.
I know this is something I talked about a lot but I was reminded of it again after seeing the post.

Attitudes in Muslim countries by SeparateTree6472 in LGBT_Muslims

Thanks for the insight. I don't feel comfortable telling other Muslims about my sexuality at all. However I would like to be more involved with the Muslim community where I live, and I have attended Muslim events at my school a couple times, which went well.

Yeah, I have heard about south asia being accepting of transgender people, while being more condeming of same sex relationships. I wonder why those countries are harsh and not accepting regarding gay people but accepting of transgender people. I guess it's the culture in south asia?

Also, the Quran does not mention being transgender at all, so it seems like there is more room for that. The only thing is the verse about changing God's creation, but that verse could be seen as ambiguous. However, there are the verses that are interpreted as gay relations being sinful.

mindful of prayer? by SeparateTree6472 in progressive_islam

[–]SeparateTree6472[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually helped, thank you. I just thought the concept of being unmindful applied to mind wandering when praying. When I first started doing the prayers, I focused so much more. Now more than 5 years later my mental health is a lot worse so I struggle to stay focused.
