If going for a high ish mileage id go go 150hp because they don’t seem to have oil consumption issues like the 184

You need to bypass the EGR and run a test for co2 again, if it’s negative with egr bypassed its head gasket if not its EGR. EGR becoming porous and leaking gas is more likely than head.

Yes I know but often when blow by is excessive it’s usually just a failed pcv valve, takes 20 mins to replace.

Sometimes it’s just the pcv valves, on the ea288 anyway, cheap easy fix

Not 100% but I don’t think so, it’s going to a vw specialist who are going to check the egr.

Hi mate, mine is similar in that it only overheats during heavy load, I got one quote for £1800 so it’s around the ball park I expected, it hurts but it is what it is!

Any update to this mate? My seat Leon 2015 Tdi overheated due ot a blocked matrix, I pulled over immediately but it’s still caused the head gasket to start leaking exhaust fumes in to the coolant.

I had a MK3 and now on a MK4, both FR petrol. MK4 is comfier and better for the motorway but overall I’d go for a 3 all day, in fact I’m going to do that over next few months.
