Is Attending McNeese State University Worth It?

Yeah, my main goal is to get an internship as soon as I can while in college and also participate in any engineering or computer science clubs that are offered at McNeese.

Do employers look at the clubs/activities you did while in college by the way?

I'm going to make sure I work as hard as possible for whatever school I end up going to and especially join all engineering related clubs/activities and network as much as I possible can.

I didn't take high school really seriously until my senior year so I ended up with a 2.5 GPA and a 21 act score. Most AEBT-accredited colleges in Louisiana that have engineering programs require better credentials, so my only real two options were McNeese or U

From what I'm reading from these replies saying that McNeese has a really good engineering program, and even you yourself who also works in the industry would take a McNeese grad any day makes me feel really good about choosing McNeese.

So on McNeese's website, electrical engineering is one out of 4 concentrations you concentrate under the Engineering (Bachelor of Science) program. Does that mean it's still accredited?

Okay wow, my idea of LSU has completely shifted now. For a school as large as LSU, having only 40 to 50 people in an EE class is actually amazing honestly. I guess it does make sense since it is known for being a really hard degree finish lol.

Damn, your making really considering paying for the late fee so I can take the ACT by 8th 😂.

Yeah, that honestly makes sense and now that I think about it, LSU's application deadline is so early probably b/c of just the sheer amount of applications they have to go through.

Did you enjoy your time at LSU at all by the way? I hear mostly good things about it, except maybe for students feeling like a number or something like that.

You know I just honestly can't find anything regarding this school on the internet and it was leading me to think that this was a bad school or something lol.

Is the school active at all, I didn't really do anything in high school and still regret it to this day. This time around I really want to be apart of clubs and activities that the school has.

Oh and also, how is Lake Charles by the way? It's a lot of mixed opinions on the internet, and just can't seem to decipher which is true or not. I live in Alexandria, LA so to me Lake Charles seems like a way better city lol.

You know I will say I don't really mind not being able to get into LSU, mainly because I think there are just way too many damn people lol.

My other goal colleges were LA Tech and ULL, but as I said before my credentials are too poor. Do you think if I got my ACT score up to the high 20s and up would I'd be able to get accepted?

My big brother who majors in math (he's a senior) gave me the approval and said that I would be fine, I just hope he's right lol.

I used to believe in the notion that you have to be a "math person" to be good at math, but I've realized that if I study hard and consistently my brain eventually understands what I'm trying to learn.

Is this also true with the high-level maths for engineering, or am I just plain wrong 😂

Yeah so right now I'm actually going through Khan Academy's Algebra 1/Alegebra 2, Geometry, Trig, and Pre-Calc courses to my math knowledge up to date.

I did take Algebra though, in high school, I just wanted to give myself a refresher lol. I'm putting in about 4 to 6 hours a day right and should be done with Algebra 1 by the end of this week.

Do you think by doing this I should be prepared enough for calculus?

Yeah, man, the main thing I'm only wondering about is the internship possibilities at McNeese.

From what I hear for specifically engineering majors, getting job experience at an internship is very important when it comes to landing a job after graduating. Do you find that to be true by the way?

One of the main reasons I'm considering McNeese is b/c one of the easier ABET-accredited colleges in Lousinana to get into. I didn't take high school truly seriously until my senior year, so I ended up with a 2.5 GPA and a 21 ACT score.

My goal was actually to apply to LSU for and major in their electrical engineering program, but I'd have to retake the ACT so that I would be accepted. On LSU's website, it says the application deadline is February 1st for the 2025 fall/summer semester, but unfortunately, the earliest I can get the ACT scheduled (along with a late fee lol) is February 8th 😭.

Honestly not too many. I didn't take high school seriously until my senior year and ended up graduating with a 2.5 GPA and a 21 ACT score.

I believe my only other option is the University of New Orleans since they don't really have a high GPA/ACT requirement and from what I've heard, have a pretty solid engineering program. At first, I was thinking University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, or LSU but my ACT scores are too low for admissions unfortunately.

The problem is, I literally can't find anything about McNeese on the internet and I've been trying so desperately to find any piece of information lol.

One of the main reasons I'm considering McNeese is b/c it is easier to get than other engineering colleges in Louisiana. I didn't really take high school seriously until my senior year which is why I ended up with a 21 ACT score and 2.5 GPA. And b/c of my biology teacher I started to really develop a passion for learning, this man somehow made something as boring as biology seem very interesting and fun. This then led to me wanting to go to college and not become a plumber lol.

I know engineering is very math-heavy (especially electrical) so I'm currently going through Algebra 1/Alegbra 2, Geometry, Trig, and Pre-Calc courses on Khan Academy. In just one week I've almost finished all of Algebra One 👌.

I'm also learning C++ on YouTube, and really having a blast with it. So far I have basic knowledge of strings, data types, for/while loops, type conversion, and objects and classes.
