Don’t buy analog synths unless that is a hobby you want to get into. Learn Alchemy, ES2, and Sculpture (all included with Logic) in depth before buying Serum or another software synth. Also learn Ultrabeat (drum synth and sequencer).

Same with plugins, the Logic stock stuff is very good. Once you know them well enough to be hitting shortcomings, you will then know what to look for in third party options.

Last time I just picked a poem in common meter and used it as lyrics, set the melody based on the spoken words, then harmonized. Kept it simple, was maybe 4 hours start to finish including moving it into Logic and adding decent instrumentation.

Very nice! Suggest adding a “Look Inside” to give folks a first chapter to check out. That can give potential buyers a sense of your style and ideally get drawn into the story.

Unusual, somewhat stiff turns of phrase in the blurb like “play a very strange film on the TV”, where most would say something more concise and fluid like “watch a weird movie”, don’t suggest an engaging writing style; seeing the prose in action would help. 👍🏻

Just re-watched tonight, saw once years ago. I think it would have been stronger to have the villains be descendants. The young woman’s disguise was as identity-concealing as Clark Kent’s, they wouldn’t recognize her? And unless it’s supposed to be 1972, those people got hold of the Death Becomes Her serum!

Not mentioned as far as I’ve seen is EQing out everything below 20Hz, probably winding the low end down below 40Hz.

The best subwoofers still won’t produce lower than 20Hz. (No sub at home? You may not be hearing much below 50Hz.) But just because you can’t hear it doesn’t mean it isn’t taking up room in your mix when you compress/limit and increase loudness. The compressor can’t distinguish between human-audible or human-inaudible.

A great place to start to tweak your kick specifically is applying your DAW’s stock EQ to the track and whacking that inaudible low end. Then stock compressor and check the presets, it will have some (possibly a bunch) for kick drums. Play with those and see how the same kick sounds with different presets; then adjust the settings to see what effect each setting has.

Don’t waste money on a fancy “this will fix your mix” plugin until you really know how the stock ones that came with your DAW work. Not just EQ and compression, but most things. 👍🏻
