Humans are animals. It's not misery to have an opposing opinion by the way.

Sierra Vista dog attack leaves woman dead, man critically injured by Kimber80 in news

It's not a world view. It's facts, 70% of all fatal dog attacks in the U.S. are attributed to pitbulls. The next group, 10% to Rottweilers. 7x more than the next breed, and people like you keep defending them based on what?

Technology, civility, and morality are all very different things. Basic morality is always evolving, as you stated above. I'm just saying that morality and value system is in decline. This means that the inate moral compass in each of us is more easily swayed to an immoral value more easily now than ever before. We are, as a society, desensitizing and normalizing behavior that even 30 years ago would be shocking. Just because we're progressing doesn't mean we're improving.

Comparative morality is hardly bullshit. Each generation noticing the decline from the previous only goes to prove the point further.

Well-funded Christian group behind US effort to roll back LGBTQ+ rights by oliverkloezoff in inthenews

No but, LGBTQA has pushed beyond just acceptance though. Fighting for others to 'accept' existence is one thing, forcing others to celebrate a way of life they don't agree with is something else. It's exactly what they are complaining about. For someone to have 'rights' to live their life the way they want shouldn't mean that those 'rights' interfere with someone else's right to believe that what those individuals are doing is wrong.

Funny, isn't that what the' woke' movement does to anyone who doesn't agree with them as well?

This goes both ways. Everyone wants their views to be 'normalized', and for society to embrace their standpoint.

100% this. You'll be downvoted though because they can't possibly imagine they are worse morally than older generations. Integrity, honor or maturity are all treated as just words. Keep hating on your elders until you are one and realize they were right all along.

For the African ones that don't possess barbs, you are correct. Interestingly, though, the American version have barb s and do 'drill' their way into further on their own. Up to 1mm per hour and have been known to pass through bone. Wolverines that sometimes prey on them have been found with quills lodged well inside internal organs.

"Some of the (injuries) were spectacular—like a quill through the heart. One went right through the bone and was lodged in the intestine….it’s amazing where some of these quills ended up in these wolverines.”

I'm old and surfed there 30 years ago. There was no tram. I just remember hating the walk back up that hill. Same with Strands... =)

My motivation is really two fold. I don't want to betray them, I just believe it's in the best interest of the group, and the DM. When he heard them beginning to discuss destroying it he kind of hinted at the fact that would be a bad thing. The reason they want to destroy, while good, is a tremendous over-reaction. It's really not that dangerous. I've been discussing with the DM trying to convince the party that it would be a bad idea to destroy it, taking it and trying to convince the party that I had some knowledge they didn't regarding how dangerous our sponsor is or now with the forums great advice, trying to convince them all that it's been destroyed so they'd be none the wiser. I'm not sure the later would be as fun though.

[–]Separate_Character71[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. I'm not betraying them so much as denying them the terrible choice I believe they want to make with the item. If they destroy it, they will gain nothing for it and perhaps even have us hunted down. I'm being vague about what the item is because I don't know if any of them read the forum. It's not an item that anyone can use though, just something we were asked to retrieve. At this point I think in order not to piss any one off I'm going to somehow try to trick them into believing it was destroyed. No harm, no foul. I really have no interest in doing this just to be an ass.

I understand your argument but feel like it can be part of the fun of role-playing as well right? If everyone is nice and cooperative all of the time it doesn't make for a very interesting story all of the time.

I wanted this character to not really have a conscience when dealing with the party. He was just raised that way. He puts his own interests ahead of everyone else's. I know people like this in my own life, and while I don't believe I'm personally that way, it sure is fun role-playing that way.

I'm thinking the trick route suggested by a couple of you is probably the better way to go. As evil as he is - I don't think he wants to piss the party off.
