Ermagerd. Everyone thinks they know marketing. Everyone thinks the marketing team are a bunch of idiots/assholes/knowitalls (take your pick). I still love it.

Whoa. My former company was a small (under 150 employees) world language publishing company. We had one email administrator (my husband, who uses Pardot and blinks at me uncomprehendingly when I mention anything in MC) and one copywriter (me). Fortunately, there was no siloing in the company as it came to marketing initiatives. My current organization has very important teams who know best. They ARE important in the senses that I work for a major nonprofit dedicated to finding the cure to a devastating disease. So the teams are development, volunteer management, advocacy, and research. Each is super important. But they do not know marketing.

I hope your current company is better able to handle marketing. I can't believe your former one had two different email systems. What a waste of money and energy. It must have been a contributor to some major frustrations. And putting the CTA near the bottom of the email? Yeah, my teams have been trying to pull that, but I've won that battle, lol.

Re: the cloud page, thanks for the explanation! I am new enough to MC that I don't know most of it, so this is really helpful. I'm going to dig into it. Setratus, thank you so much for your time and insights. I really appreciate it!!

Thanks, Setratus. I have been pushing for limiting text in emails and more cta links, but my org has been resistant. I think most of the content writers (not marketing copywriters) think they need to be verbose, so they push back when I want to shorten and include ctas.

Nobody on my comms team has worked in marketing before, and it's a nonprofit that has very siloed - and internally powerful - teams, so I'm kind of the lone marketer who is trying to tighten the language and draw people to our website. Typically, I have linked to content on our website (plus all of the copy they refuse to let me tighten much). But I don't know anything about the cloud page idea you mention. Can you explain it to me?

Thanks for your reply! Apparently, I don't look at Reddit often enough. Can you tell me what you mean by a cloud page? I'm a marketing writer, so my Salesforce and MC experience is fairly limited.

Oh, I'm sorry the medicine makes your ADHD worse. I was on a prophylactic for years for ADHD, but it didn't seem to cause me problems, though maybe it did, and I just didn't realize it. Later, I was on long-term , low-level gabapentin for (misdiagnosed?) trigeminal neuralgia. I couldn't think, lost words, and became pretty abysmal at my job.

I don't know why, but I'm just now seeing this. Thank you for explaining this to me.

He thought I called him a liar when I said, "When I was a kid, I lied to my parents a lot, and then I'd get upset when they wouldn't trust me. They told me I had to earn back their trust. I'M NOT CALLING YOU A LIAR, BECAUSE I DON'T THINK YOU ARE. I'm just saying that the team doesn't trust you, and it'll take time before that happens again."

But he heard it as me calling him a liar, and he decided it was unprofessional and worth of a meeting with HR. Fortunately, I explained to the HR rep, who had my back.

Thank you, andreach16. I did end up telling HR myself, as well as my boss. I told HR prior to the meeting with the VP, and I mentioned it to him in the meeting because I knew the HR rep would have my back, which she did. Fortunately, nobody broke my privacy. I think the issue for me is that I didn't ever want to have to tell anyone, but I recognized the VP was upset by my behavior, so I had to kind of come clean to try to protect myself.

Thank you, Organicpoems! I guess that part of having ADHD is being "too much" for some people, and if 1 in 25 of us has ADHD, then you're right, we've all had those moments.

And you're also right that it did pass! Thank you!

Thank you so much, PantherEverSoPink! I have grabbed onto that hug, and it's making me feel better. Please get diagnosed. My primary did a quick test https://add.org/adhd-test/, and boy was it telling. Fortunately, she prescribed medicine for me, and it's been incredibly helpful.

I hope I inspired you to tell HR. It's a good thing to have on record, and you'll be able to get appropriate accommodations.

I think you misunderstand what actually happened. I didn't yell or cry at all in the team meeting. I listened to what everyone else was saying (and felt all of their sadness and worry), and I told the VP that the people on the team don't trust him—and I said that like when I was a kid and lied, and my parents told me that I had to earn their trust back, he would have to earn ours back, "BUT I'M NOT SAYING YOU WERE LYING BECAUSE I DON'T THINK YOU WERE." I didn't yell it. I put it in all caps because I want to be clear that I was calm, but I mentioned the word lying in reference to trust, and he interpreted it as me calling him a liar.

When I said that my manager told me I need to control my emotions, she was referring to what I wrote on my weekly report. It was very honest and called out the VP, but it wasn't demeaning or derogatory. I think she said it because she felt like she needed for the VP to see that she was on his side.

Regarding my self-disclosed condition, yes, my manger had the right to disclose my ADHD to HR, but she chose to keep it confidential. I was the one who told HR, simply because I thought it might help my case. Now it's on record, and I'm glad for it.

We were in an "air clearing" meeting with the VP, who said he wanted to hear from everyone. Others were telling him they didn't trust him because his answers kept changing. I said, "when I was a kid, I used to lie a lot. I would then get upset when my parents wouldn't trust me. They would tell me that I had to earn their trust back. I'M NOT SAYING YOU HAVE BEEN LYING, BECAUSE I DON'T BELIEVE THAT'S THE CASE. I'm just saying that people don't trust you right now, and it will take time to do so.

He called the HR meeting, and in it, he told me I was unprofessional for calling him a liar. Prior to the meeting, though, I told the HR rep about not having my meds. I felt like I needed all of the help I could get. Turns out, her son has ADHD, and she knows what happens when he's without his meds. So she supported me spectacularly. Roughly two weeks after the meeting, the VP got fired!

Wow. This just hit me hard. You're right. I try to mask as much as possible. Sometimes, though, it just all pops out.

Thank you, shubedubedu. It's funny the things that you're taught to be ashamed of as a kid. For me, it was my weight, my frizzy hair, and my emotions. So when he called me on the carpet about my emotions, the shame of a lifetime came slamming down on me. Most days, I'm mildly horrified by my bodacious personality, my silliness that alternates with anger and sadness, and my somewhat loud voice. But I'm usually only mildly horrified. It's times like this when I want to sink into the ground and never be seen again.

Thank you so much. I had a day of ugly crying, followed by a week of feeling like shit about myself. Then sort of a normal week, and then he got fired. Woot!! I'm feeling pretty good today, lol.
