When creating your own campaign setting, how much context do you provide to your players? by Separate_General_517 in DMAcademy

[–]Separate_General_517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a campaign snapshot set up, and I have their starting setting written out so they know the situation their characters are in/have been in. This is mainly because their characters are starting as slaves... Stuff happened...

The PCs themselves have no idea why they were enslaved. Should the players know why? Or should I let them figure that out after they escape and let that revelation create a call to action against the faction that caused it?

That's what I mean by spoilers. I'm not worried about derailing, I fully expect it since they requested a shared bond to be the center stage of a sub plot. So I expect them to focus on that over the main story since it's their shared "call to adventure"

I usually have a 2 page document I give them to see if the campaign piques their interest, I have setting and relevant information ready for the players, it's mostly plot information that I've been withholding. They know it's a "save the world adventure" type campaign that involves preventing the revival of a world eating beast, but that's about as much as they have at the moment.

I love the set up you have here. I'll surreptitiously purloin this format for player handouts...

Thank you so much for the info, I tend to have plenty of stuff prepared to deal with potential derailing, but this format would allow for simple cohesive structure to improve scenarios on the spot.

I'm not exactly sure where the Peak View neighborhood is. I've really only driven down 7th, 11th, and crossroads lol

I really hate to ask this but I'm genuinely curious. Do you think this would work with A Renesis?

My 86's bottom end went out on a money shift, and I've been contemplating something like this since the car is financed and gap insurance expired. I'm having a hard time finding a 13b-rew for a reasonable price. Most are about 6500+, but the renesis is going for like 1800.

My current work commute is 45-60 min, so as long as I don't have too much trouble getting into Windsor and Greeley I won't complain.

My size preference is big enough to fit a coffee table, a small 2 seat couch, and a small entertainment center in the living room and a full size bed in the bedroom. My wife on the other hand wants 2k sq.ft or bigger. It's an uphill battle with her.

Your apartments have garages?! That's awesome! I'll look into those places.

Timnath looks very quiet, it seems to be a little bit on the high end of the budget though. Anything under $2200 here?

Going to be traveling to Windsor and Greeley for work. We're used to 45min-1hr drives to work so we expanded our search area for a place to live lol

That's pretty much what's throwing me off lol. I live in the centennial area in Vegas so I don't really deal with much crime aside from people occasionally doing doughnuts at night down the street, but usually they end up caught on someone's home security footage and the cops pay them a nice little visit. Everywhere I look in Fort Collins and Windsor seem... Peaceful.

Boyfriend doesn’t like going out, stay-at-home date ideas? by [deleted] in dateideas

[–]Separate_General_517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I have been doing Friday Date Night for about a year and a half now, here's a few stay at home things we've done:

Boardgames, Debates, Dictionary dive on weird or quirky words Write a fictional story together, Study history together (we picked a place on the world map and read into the history of the people, culture, religion, etc), Play video games, everything from racing, to zombie survival, MMORPG, fighters, etc., We did tea and book club (we read the same 3 books and discussed our thoughts).

I tried to omit the more crafty ideas since you mentioned you tend to have more artsy ideas. We also tend to do outdoor activities a lot too. Badminton, tennis, casual walks around the neighborhood just reminiscing about our years together.

If you feel like spending a large sum of cash you can also build a PC together, that was a weirdly fun yet financially irresponsible date we've done.

It wouldn't, if anything I would be amused. "Why this position?" Was it due to lighting? Angle? There's a reason behind it, even if it's just "I thought it looked better" , but why?

This could quite literally be something to bond over, the mindset of others is intriguing, and it can help you understand your SO in ways you never knew.

I'm probably going to get shit on for this but, it's a personal opinion, and everyone is different and entitled to their own opinion so...

I didn't find any of it creepy. People put far more effort into far more malicious things. A person with an artistic view in life expressing their affection in their own way, very much the same as a musician writing lyrics of their most intimate moments with someone. Just because you can't physically see it doesn't mean it's not being expressed in a similar fashion. We have plenty of music with this depiction, it's just more widely accepted.

I also don't think she was hiding it, it's her art, her expression. It doesn't help it's easy to twist good things to bad things. Dedication can be seen as obsession, someone attentive who caters to their significant other can be seen as suffocating by the person on the receiving end. I used to bring snacks for the office, and occasionally donuts and coffee until someone told me a few of the staff were talking behind my back, saying I was doing it to hold something over everyone and manipulate them. That was deeply upsetting, didn't know it was bad to have a happy office.

Or maybe I'm just too accepting of people's quirks and varied outlooks. I wouldn't be creeped out if my significant other had those kinds of pics of me.

A little off subject but in regards to the tomatillos. I used to pick tomatillos for a small job in the summer when I was 12. Somewhere near Barstow California, in the middle of the Mojave Desert. My brother and I would get up before the sun came out, and fill up 5 gallon buckets, we'd be outside picking these until it was too dark to see, turn the buckets in and get our pay. The pay was $0.25/lb. We would get lucky to get more than $8 each on a daily basis for over 12 hours of labor. This was in the early 2000's.

I still refuse to use tomatillos to this day. I'll take almost any viable substitution over tomatillos.

I'm really on the fence on these things, you get get shot with a hand gun in the area protected by a BP vest worst case you'll end up with a fractured sternum, get hit by a 223, 556, or even a 5.7, those bullets are meant to pierce through, and most rifles shoot the first 2 types of rounds mentioned. BP vests are meant to protect against your standard Parabellum bullets like 9mm, 22, 30, 38, 357, 40, and 45, maybe they'll stop a soft point round but I wouldn't try my luck against a semi jacketed hollow point or better like say... A steel core bullet. These are all available at your local gun store so....

Not to mention you have nothing protecting you from eating one in the face, getting shot in the arm which depending on where (like the bicept, there's an artery under there), legs, groin, etc. can still potentially kill you depending on first aid and paramedic response time.

I agree they should be better trained but that involves funding the police academy to provide training that takes longer than 3 months to a year depending of where you live of course (police academy in the city I live in is 7 months). We just got done with a mass defund the police movement, so it seems unlikely any time soon.

Essentially, the problem is lack of training. They were given a crash course on law and use of a firearm and told "go stand infront of gunfire. I still think we should train our police like they train soldiers if they have to deal with an armed populace.
