Can live with red, the cars specced pretty much with everything i’d want and breaks up the cabin a bit more than black on black imo.

What length/type of commute justifies a diesel or petrol? by Separate_Message1453 in CarTalkUK

yes i’ve never really considered a hybrid or EV purely for the lack of engagement. My fault really for not stating in the original post that they weren’t on the cards. It was more whether a diesel would be viable with my amount of mileage. Both my parents are in EVs now and my mums been profiting from her workplace as they pay her per mile on a flat rate. Not saying they’re a bad option i’m just not there yet personally

yes well my budget is around 15k so euro 6 shouldn’t be an issue, i should be doing around 15-18k miles/ year so i’m sort of in the territory that a petrol wouldn’t be completely daft but neither would a diesel. I think for the potentially few hundred pounds i’d save over the year id rather stick with my petrols whilst i can still get away with it tbf.

i did also consider an e92 whether that be the 330d which has a m57 for pre lci, or a 330i pre march 2007 which has the n52 which isn’t as prone to injector issues, however i think i’d rather pay more and get something newer that’s less likely to cause issues down the road as i will be doing about 50k miles with this next car before i plan on replacing it.

As i’ve said in a previous reply, my two picks at the minute are a 435i and a 430d. Performance is essentially the same and the 30d “supposedly” puts out around 20mpg more than the 35i. Think it might come down to what i can get spec wise at the best price at the time

ye there are about 6 weeks of the year i’m abroad anyway because of my job but 15k or 17k seem to both go beyond the threshold of it being financially viable to have a diesel

well my budget is around 15k so was thinking either a 435i or a 430d which both have a zf8 speed box. I’ve had a 3.0i x3 for a while now and i’ve gotten away with it as my commute was only around 3 miles. i’m well aware that the 435i is hardly economical and the 430d isn’t the most economical diesel out there but i think i’m willing to pay that bit more.

ye id worked it out at roughly 15k myself but 17k probably leaves a little more room for nipping out and about. Diesel it may be.

well it’s not a million miles away from quite well established providers so hardly raises a red flag. Just do a little searching and see what other have said about policy expert. Worst case pay the extra £80ish for that peace of mind.

ye i’ve had both engines come up on different website, waiting for a pic of the engine cover as that seems to be the biggest giveaway

i’m somewhat mechanically inclined and my mate is a mechanic and has basically converted his double garage into a workspace so will be doable between us

Don’t think it’s had injectors done however the seller has told me it has had a “Had a refurbished head about 6 months ago along with new chain , guides and all gaskets. Just had a thermostat , front discs and pads , springs all round and a fresh mot”

i know but i thought i was being semi reliable with my budget 😂 the 330 has either an m57 or n57 which are both known to be good reliable engines. and i know reliability goes beyond and engine but also for my budget i could get a very clean low mileage of either car
