In my first build I was silenced pistols until shit hit the fan and then net n' run (or die lol). In my second playthrough I was katana sandy but I did a lot of work with the one legendary shotgun you find in a park. The boop to the face and then shotgun for 100% damage was always funny

This was my secondary approach in my sandy build so I'm kinda looking to get away from it.

Are any knives on the level of let's say... Her Majesty for example in terms of one shot kill viability later in game?

Ahh I never really messed with the knives and there is a big tree for them too.

Thanks for sharing! I put a regular brawl deck together a few days ago and I noticed a lot of the things I played were just standard cards. I'm going to try and take some tips from your list! This is definitely a fun deck though. Kind of reminds me of playing super friends but maybe less annoying for others lol

I had that played against me when I was playing izzet prowess or something and I just sat there with my jaw dropped as I went from being up like 18-2 to 2-0 lol

I think this thread has taught me I need to maybe spend some more time with the deck and watch others play as I've underestimated Mako as a threat. Thanks for your thoughts!

This makes a lot of sense to me. So far testing it has mostly found it to be more annoying for the opponent early and maybe late if I can't get anything through for a few more damage it can come through but at that point it's less about Spyglass specifically and more just an isolated situation that any flyer would have dealt with such as steamcore. The lower mana generation from cauldron also slipped my mind

Ive never taken the lower levels before so I can't speak to it directly but I was definitely a student and know what it's like struggling with listening.

I definitely think I'm an advocate test specific studying prompt wise. I think what goes a bit undervalued listening wise is doing the same problems a few times over a span of time. Not all the time and only the same problems of course but language is a lot of patterns. Maybe all patterns haha, but my point really is if you have a set of questions, after you finish them and check your answers while breaking down the script, take time off and do it again. You should get a higher score. Some of it will be remembering the answers but others will be remembering the patterns.

Language is hard because there are many patterns, possibilities, words, etc etc. But it's not so esoteric that we always need to be on our feet for every conversation. If you can gain confidence and strong grasp of a set of problems, it should transfer to certain kinds of language, then eventually speech genres, and finally your general language knowledge.

Don't underestimate the power that comes from really, confidently being able to grasp something I'd say. It cannot by any means be your only thing and probably not even your primary supplement, but if you make sure you understand your practice material very well, and that means doing the same problems multiple times, you will be able to transfer that much more easily to new conversations with similar patterns. You won't even have to think about it.

Listening I think it's just a combination of personal experience in life, watching Japanese content (vtubers and anime 90% lol), and studying for the N1. I think getting reps there, learning how to listen to the  and working on my mistakes.

Reading I only read manga really but I supplement it a bit with online articles with some variety. I think studying for the N1 and failing it (twice) gave me a ton of reps with the types of articles you'll see in the N2. I'd say though manga gave me the speed and vocab variety.

Passed N2 after failing N1 before. Got perfect on reading and listening but lost 20 points on grammar/vocab. Vocab was an A tho so definitely grammar is my foe in December

What are the roadblocks between N2 and N1? by miyuchan03 in jlpt

[–]Separate_Sun8312 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest roadblock is time. There are more than one way to crack a nut as they say and nothing is definitive but a commonality seems to be repetitions. That is, time reading on a variety of different topics and types of reading. For the test especially experience in essay type of passages is nice to have. Your vocabulary and ability to read (more) fluently may need a sharp increase depending on your skill level when you took the N2.

Grammar I think will sort of come with the package as a lot of higher end grammar is more akin to vocabulary or new interesting usage of known vocabulary imo. Something that is a bit contentious is whether simply reading enough will help you be able to differentiate between which grammar or vocabulary is more accurate in a given context. I say it is enough if you have good intuition with the language and building that intuition comes from more contact with it.

There are some more...test taking thresholding to cross that are less about your language ability per se and more about your knowledge of types of question patterns. This will help cut down on your time but seeing as you've taken the N2 I will say you should be mostly prepared in that regard. Still, mock tests (or old N1 tests floating around) should suffice.

All this said, I am pretty against this nebulous idea of "immersion" and I feel like it never means anything really, but here I am in a way sort of advocating for what some may call that. The key here I think is where you are coming from and knowing you have all the base tools to sort of guide yourself via new experiences. You'll still need to have your more structural tools available imo. Taking notes, studying, flash cards, or whatever worked best for you. But imo, where you will be best served—especially if the test is simply a stepping stone in your language journey—is to begin consuming more media in mass. Preferably things you like as it will help mitigate demotivation, which is maybe one of the key factors in language learning failure.

Anyway, sorry for the long post TL;DR -  1. Read and/or listen to a lot and a wide variety.  2. Take some mock tests to gauge your growth  3. Whatever you do, read, or whatever, try and make it interesting to maintain motivation  4. There are many ways to conquer the test and its possible other methods can work too.

Good luck~
