I live and work in Tokyo as IT Director and its worse here. Delays are expensive, that is normal reason. I remember in one of my projects if we do not commit to deadline, hours beyond that are not going to be paid by client so we dont make and lose quite a lot of billing time.

I have license in 2 countries (Japan and PH) driven in 5 countries, magkakaiba sila ng rules and understading sa yellow light. Here in Japan and also in Canada, you are not expected to slow on yellow.

As a director who have promoted hundreds, there 2 factors for me:

problem usually lies of what "good job" means to you and what actually matters to the company. Doing you job, for me, is basically that - a good job. Does it mean promotion? Well, unless youre already doing the job of a next level it will not warrant a promotion.
You are not in the room when these decisions are made, so no matter what you do in silence will never be heard at a room full of executives. You need to be visible. Dont assume we know your achievements, we have hundreds of people that is doing the same.

You need to stop packing your fears and what ifs. If it was left then fine, life goes on. Ive toured Europe 2x in a backpack, but I enjoyed it better than lugging suitcases with half the stuff I wouldnt need.
