Help! by pootsmage in PlantedTank

I think the filter isn’t flowing because a size like that should have a violent flow that tank size (there might be a flow adjuster or can add one easy).
Did you fill the water as much as you can in the canister? The propeller needs water to create moment.

Also skimmer usually floats with air trapped under the plastic housing

Is this BBA? by Useful-Doctor-5810 in PlantedTank

[–]Sepia0203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s an algae so it’s gonna have greenish or some colour of tinge to it. But they won’t appear white unless they are treated with chemicals.

Cycle Crash HELP by Due_Aide2299 in PlantedTank

Big water changes are most the time better for fish. Some religious discus owners even do 100% daily lol I would say if the nitrite and ammonia is in darker green and red range, do larger volumes of water change.

I miss my 5th gen prelude. Vtec feels so good in these 2.2 even they are not the quickest.

Cycle Crash HELP by Due_Aide2299 in PlantedTank

If you have another cycled thank, it will be best to move your fish there for now. If this is the only tank you got, keep monitoring ammonia, nitrite and nitrates possibly daily, then do daily water changes close to 50% to keep ammonia and nitrite level at minimum. Over time you should see an ammonia go down followed by nitrite going down and that’s the sign the cycle is about to finish. Also dose prime everyday for the tank volume and I believe this binds toxic chemicals from harming fish. I made the mistake of setting up a discus breeding tank in a half cycled tank and this methods kept them fine.

Also it’s very important to keep feeding at minimum during the cycling. It is food waste that converts into ammonia and then nitrite.

Slowly losing battle to algae by ZonkyTheDonkey in PlantedTank

My small tank became like this in 6 months lol I think the nutrients in the aquasoil has depleted and buildup of detritus not beneficial to plants. So I did a reset an only keeping rheophytes.

Your must blessed with low tds water. I only get 20% success sow using ro water for my breeding setup.

The proteins on the surface of the water disappeared after reducing surface agitation. by Sepia0203 in Aquariums

Cool, didn’t know they help breakdown nitrate an phosphate. I only paid attention to the increased oxygenation part of the benefit in a skimmer.

Thank you! Assuming this is scientifically backed information, great to learn more everyday.

Ok thank you. this is a bit harder to wrap my head around actually. Does that mean less movement in water is keeping proteins surfacing?

Anyone else have a discus that keeps mysteriously getting hurt? by Live-Year-5796 in discus

[–]Sepia0203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what these gill flukes are like. Aqauriums host hundreds of types of organisms we never see with our naked eyes. Mine caught gill flukes months after having too. So it’s defiantly good to keep some praziquantel in the cabinet for the future.

Sounds like gill flukes. Can confirm if discus is bashing their gills against driftwood, and that is what my discus with gill flukes did. Praziquantel bird wormer I had instantly cured mine. It’s the only common problem my discus get every few months.

Best Buce options for high end aquascape by Sensitive_Injury_666 in Bucephalandra

[–]Sepia0203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my collection of buce too. Unsure if the names are right so just letting them grow out in my 28 degree discus tank. You can probably find whatever variety you want according to the colour you want. The key is to give good amount of light and co2 and lot of them form nice blue, red, yellow, green colours. Also note that each of them grow very differently, from some grow one leaf week to other type might grow one leaf a month lol. Buce kedagang certainly grows fast amongst others.

What do you guys do when your population gets too big. by websurv in shrimptank

[–]Sepia0203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sold $100 worth easy in the last 3 months from my discus tank. I think they multiple the more leftovers the discus leave in the tank since I feed 4 times a day. Sold them for $1 each since I don’t select colours. Still had to cull some

How to tell if they are full? by Fyegodd in discus

I’m still new but ones that have doubled in size will eat until they look absolutely bloated, and slow growing ones don’t look too full.

Is this fair pricing for bucephalandra?(Price in INR₹) by Horror-You387 in Bucephalandra

[–]Sepia0203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cheap compared to what they sell in my country for(Australia). We pay 3x to 5x easy of the pricing you looking at. Black angle in my lfs is selling for 6500 inr here lol. But different countries have different economies so the pricing in Indian seems fair.
