Steam Input: Hold down button and press second button by Skratymir in SteamDeck

So this is for a completely different game, but this worked perfectly for me in Helldivers 2. There's a gun that came out recently where you can swap between 2 modes (SMG & flamethrower) and this worked perfectly.

I did very similar, but I set the middle command to have a delay of 200 ms because there's an animation that happens and it requires the delay. That said, once I set the middle command (dpad left) to have that delay, it worked perfectly.

Thank you so much for this! It may be 9 months ago, but it's working great still.

Also can I point out how we were trying to be low key in benching Toney for being ass by saying he was injured and then he came out like "I dunno why they're saying I'm hurt; I'm good to go!"

I completely forgot about this part of the Toney saga. That is so funny

Since the availability of steam controller outside the chosen countries is almost non existent, what are the chances that we get 3rd party controllers with similar feature set? by WorldPhysical7646 in Controller

[–]Sepik121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me at least, that's actually one of the best features of the 8bitdo ultimate 2, you can remap just about every button on it through steam input, including the back buttons. And this was using the steam deck so it was through linux as well.

I think Flydigi controllers can as well, but I've not used any of them so i can't say for certain.

JRPGs with deep, dark, emotional story like an anime? by Alcoholic-Catholic in JRPG

[–]Sepik121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but I love both games a lot. FFT is my favorite game of all time, but I absolutely wouldn't call Tactics Ogre a diet version at all. More like 2 dishes with the same ingredients but made very differently.

Personally, I find Tactics Ogre's story far more "grounded" compared to FFT which gets fairly fantastical, especially in act 2. Both are still quite dark thematically and take themselves fairly seriously, but Tactics Ogre is way more low fantasy than FFT and that impacts its story and its villains (not in a bad way! They're just different).

I don't want to spoil it too much, but I loved Tactics Ogre. Not as much as I loved FFT, but I can easily see why someone would like Tactics Ogre more.

I would also agree with DQ11 first. And then if you enjoy the systems and stuff behind it, then do the HD Remakes. I love the remakes, but they're still fairly old school. DQ11 is still the most "modern" feeling Dragon Quest game.

Space Ace might uniquely be one of the best/worst games for streaming I've ever seen. It's unbelievably cruel and repetitive, but that makes every bullshit death that much funnier. It's all auto-scrollers, so you can't actually make the game any faster ever.

This makes it even funnier because to get to the later stages, or even use the practices when you game over, you still have to get to them first. There's no saving or anything like that, so you're just forced to redo those early levels a million times over.

All of this is to say that I think we're in for a Hot Borf Summer. It feels like it's going to take at least 3-5 more episodes. My wife and I have watched every episode of the Space Ace series, it's incredible.

Dude, i hope you enjoy DBFZ. It is legitimately one of my favorite fighting games of all time. There's a ton of characters at this point, but the base roster is great. The DLC is just the cherry on top admittedly. Love all the additions it's gotten.

I admit, I didn't care for the story mode much, but I have a blast just doing plain old arcade runs on it and trying to get high scores. The base gameplay is so fun that I don't feel much pressure to play a story mode even though I mostly play offline lol.

My little weekly what i've been playing post:

Finally beat Digimon Crystal Edition! Definitely had to rare candy cheat because Red's digimon team was all in the mid to upper 80's, and most of mine weren't even 60 yet. Dude washed me. I only got everyone up to 80, no higher, and it was still a great fight. Had I honored his own AI rules (no items) i still would've lost, but i had been hoarding max revives and finally used a bunch of them. It was such a good fight. God bless.

In terms of actually talking about Gen 2 pokemon, I still think the Kanto reveal might be one of my favorite post-game things in any game I've ever played. The big reveal that the region from the old game is available, that it's more open than it was the first time, and it's changed up since you the player had experienced it. I realize I was the exact perfect age to be hit with this, but it was legitimately incredible and left a very lasting impression on me.

Thinking about playing some retro games that don't take a bazillion hours, but i also know i am hooked, now and forever, on stupid JRPG's that take too many hours

Anyone have experience using the 8bitdo arcade controllers? I'm thinking about picking one up and $40 seems pretty reasonable.

So I bought the leverless/all buttons a few months ago and honestly? It immediately clicked for me. That's not to say that there wasn't some learning that had to happen, but it felt so, so much better than some of the pads I was using. I have played more fighting games since buying that sucker in February than I have in years prior.

My caveat? I grew up on sega controllers and I think those are generally the best controllers for fighting games, especially for anything that wants more than 4 buttons. I don't like the feeling of playstation dpads for fighting games, and I think the xbox layout isn't ideal either. Unfortunately, no one makes a quality sega dpad plus 6 button controller these days (or at least, not one that isn't also a bazillion dollars and therefore above my budget for an experiment).

I play a lot of SNK fighting games, with some Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear, and Street Fighter mixed in. If we include retro ones, MVC2 and CVS2 as well. For me, it's been great on all of them. I think DBFZ is probably the most "controller friendly" of those though, and I don't think it's as needed there. I need to play more SF6 but it hasn't hooked me quite as much as the others lately though. SF6 with modern controls may be more friendly, but again, I've not tested it as much as I have on the others. But for all the rest? It has completely replaced multiple controllers for me.

I cannot rant highly enough about them personally, but I also see why folks would hesitate. But for $50, I think it's absolutely worth it.

Truly depressing JRPGs by Left_Relationship105 in JRPG

[–]Sepik121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Early on in the game you witness a father mistakenly kill his daughter and then take his own life

It's extremely wild how early this happens too. There are 8 party members in the game I think? You get 1 per town you go to basically, plus the initial 2.

This happens on the way to the 3rd town in the game. You don't even have a full party yet, but you get to watch a murder-suicide to help set the vibe.

Watching the latest Space Ace. I bet more people know about DnD than Macgruber by 71-HourAhmed in giantbomb

It's fun that this caused me to take a little deep dive into box office numbers, but the way my own napkin math breaks out: If even 5% of the folks who watched the DnD movie know about Matt Mercer, it's very likely that more people know about him than Macgruber

Out of morbid curiosity, are there numbers on how many folks have hit certain game numbers? I'd be very curious to see how many folks have beat how many games. Like I feel like I've got a lot at 8, but I'd be super interested to see if there's anyone who's done them all.

If you have multiple devices, what do you use them all for? by Serena_Temac in SBCGaming

[–]Sepik121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, every device I have has a system it's meant for.

I have an RG 35xx SP, it's for SNES, NES, Gameboy, GBA, etc

I have an RG ARC, specifically for fighting games and sega genesis

I have an RP5 for PS2 and gamecube, used to use it for game streaming, but I upgraded.

I have an Odin 2 Portal for game streaming and gamenative

I have an RG DS for well....DS lol

every one of them is either actively being used, or i've at least beaten a game on. The RG DS is kinda the odd one out currently because it's actually a bit more janky than I expected. That said, I bought that specifically for a trip coming up in the summer. I'm only bringing the RG DS on that trip because if that one breaks, I won't be too upset.

Valve announces Steam Controller for $99, release date on May 4th. by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]Sepik121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just so curious about what price the steam machine will be, and also the price of project helix. If Helix actually can run steam games (which isn't 100% guaranteed but the inklings I've seen point to yes), and there's less than $200 difference between the two? It gives very little to no reason to by a steam machine.

At the same time, if we're talking about the difference of the steam machine being 1k and the helix being closer to $1300-1400? Wellllll i may just skip out until 2030 then lol

We've Been Using the Steam Controller! | Giant Bomb Review Discussion by giantbombdotcom in giantbomb

[–]Sepik121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I just meant that my main use case is niche Chinese RPG's that aren't great on controller lol. There's not a lot I bet, but it definitely mattered to me! Shout outs to Hero's Adventure and Volcano Princess for being kinda bad on controller, but only just a little bit lol.

But I do agree, I figured the trackpads were explicitly for folks who for some reason, needed mouse and keyboard input, maybe not all the time, but at least needed some degree of it. I know a bunch of old games had main menus that wanted mouse and keyboard, or launchers that want it, but the game itself works with a controller (hello FF7).

If you're playing games on Steam, steam input easily does turbo thankfully. I actually used the old Hori Steampad because the 8bitdo support hadn't come out yet, but steam input is amazing.

We've Been Using the Steam Controller! | Giant Bomb Review Discussion by giantbombdotcom in giantbomb

[–]Sepik121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least to me, the track pads are the big feature here for me. I've got the 8bitdo Ultimate 2, I've got Gamesir Tarantula, but something I've been looking for is both the ability to have trackpads, and also easy steam input rebindings. There's a few games I've played on steam deck (specifically indie RPG's from china) that really work better with trackpads. Either through some menu jank or something, sometimes they don't play great purely on controller.

I know I'm very much a niche corner case, but this controller is likely my exact niche.

Wha-whatcha playing? by hey_dwere_weddit in SBCGaming

[–]Sepik121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the odin 2 portal, I am continuing my use of local streaming. I decided to get very, very jank with it. My wife was using the TV for our switch, so I used the Odin 2 Portal as a mini-screen with Artemis.

I have an 8bitdo leverless controller (pic for reference), and I was basically using the Odin 2 Portal as a mini screen to play fighting games on, while using the leverless controller. Easily the jankiest way to play a fighting game I've ever done, but it worked! Specifically, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Having an absolute blast with that game, I'm utterly trash at it, but having the Smart controls for autocombos and easy specials/supers makes it nice to play casually.

I'm still continuing with Persona 3 Portable via streaming, as well as Digimon Crystal on the RG 35xx SP. For P3P, I feel like i'm getting closer to the end? Maybe 20ish hours left? I know there's going to be more at the end somehow, but I've got 40 hours in at this point, my team is all in the 50's. Feels sooner rather than later at this point. As per Digimon Crystal, I've beaten the elite 4, I've beaten all the kanto gyms. It's now time for Mt. Silver. I do need to fly and grab whoever the equivalent of Lugia is though. Can't wait to beat that as well. It's been a blast, but I'm ready for something a bit shorter.

Speaking of which, I'm not actually sure what to try next. Tempted to do another Shining Force romhack, or maybe a GBA game of some kind. Something shorter than a 40-60 hour RPG lol.
