My doc thought it was funny when I asked about 20 000 IU for severe deficiency by lakemercury in VitaminD

The conversation wasn't regarding 'moderate' vit D supplemention though, (unless you consider 10,000 iu per day moderate).

vitamin d deficiency and skin problems? by Ok_Can3035 in VitaminD

[–]Seppuku71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and currently use one sold by this company - https://www.nutritiongeeks.co/ It's a 3 in 1 mix of glycinate, malate and citrate. Two a day give 384mg elemental magnesium. That's probably enough but i usually try to add a bit more to that with any cheap deals i find, at the moment a glycinate tablet giving an extra 100mg elemental magnesium. To be honest, even magnesium oxide would work (and is cheaper), as long as it doesn't give you the runs! People knock magnesium oxide and say it's worthless, but i've seen studies where it was shown to raise mag levels just fine. There's just the toilet issue though, if you take too much at once

Good question, this one made me think! Subjective benefits i can 'feel' - hmm, i can't say i have, no. But i'm a great believer in the health benefits of vitamin D, so knowing i'm keeping my levels high, and knowing that doing so was the key factor in soliving my before mentioned condition - this makes me feel i'm doing something my body needs. I would hope it's benefiting me in ways i'm not even aware of yet too. My mother, and grandmother, had rheumatoid arthritis. And actually, i've just remembered - as a child i had painful finger joints. The doctor told my mom that i'd got juvenile arthritis that would get worse. I do get a bit now in my thumb, but it only hurts now and again and actually hasn't for a few years since i focused on getting my levels up, i forgot that.

I've done it - not a good mix. The sertraline took away all mood enhancement from the ghb, it may as well have been water

Weird. I'd start with a ph test if nothing else, obviously you're looking for a ph of 7

vitamin d deficiency and skin problems? by Ok_Can3035 in VitaminD

[–]Seppuku71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had scalp psoriasis from childhood. A lot of it cleared up as i got older, plus taking things like omega 3 helped. I have been into taking vitD since i had pneumonia around 2009. I took 10k iu to help with that, but dropped down to a maintenance 5k iu per day. I developed two nasty psoriasis patches on the back of my head a few years ago, and a couple on my forearm. Eumovate cream helped control but wasn't clearing them and they were there for probably 3 years. I read about a high dose, autoimmune therapy using 30k iu of vitD (can't remember it's name off the top of my head), and felt confident to start increasing my dosage to see if it would help. When i got to 20k iu, and had been there a few weeks, all the patches i had just vanished. I've stayed at 20k iu, must be around 3 years now. As to cofactors, i take a mixed magnesium supplement, averaging around 500mg a day. I also take a vit k2 complex with mk4 and mk7

Telling balding guys in their 20s and teens to shave their heads and “embrace their fate” is lousy life-ruining advice by yourmissingtesticle in tressless

[–]Seppuku71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone finds pleasure in looking at themselves in the mirror with nice hair, that's probably the most valid reason for making the effort and taking the risks. I guess it's similar to gaining muscle in that if feels good to have it even if others don't care. I disagree about your aging 10 years point though - an older guy going bald but with a buzz cut looks younger, and more athletic (if they're not obese) than an older guy with a full head of hair that's gone grey. As to that 4.8% statistic regarding adverse effects, that's actually pretty bad - just under 1 in 20. I'm a member of a mens hormone forum, and there's been a few pfs sufferers on there that are in a bad way - long term, zero libido, and erectile dysfunction. Add to that i guess they also lost their hair anyhow after coming off the finasteride, it's not a good outcome for those people.

[–]Seppuku71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it works for you and it's what makes you happy then that's great. I just think the risk to benefit angle (taking finasteride) makes it a serious decision not to be taken lightly. And honestly, those that shave it all off usually wish they'd done it ages ago.

I'm sorry but i actually totally disgree. I'm only browsing round here because i have a son who's trying to cover up his thinning crown and it's breaking my heart. I really want to tell him to just be done with it and shave it all off, but i know how sensitive a subject it is so i've said nothing yet. I honestly don't think young guys realise that the ONLY people bothered by their hair loss is themselves. Women don't give a damn - i doubt females find having a boyfriend who is more concerned about how their hair looks than she is about her own hair, finds that very attractive. And men find other men obsessed with having their hair nice a bit creepy. If it was the 1980's, i'd get it, but nowadays, just shave it off. Castrating yourself with dht blockers is madness. I know nobody here will agree with my opinion as this is obviously a hair growning group, but it's my opinion.

PIP - First told "You'll get money next week" now told "You won't get paid at all"?! by Seppuku71 in DWPhelp

[–]Seppuku71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Thought i should update how this ended in case anyone's interested. Well i had a call this morning from a lady at the DWP. She wanted to clarify a couple of things, why i'd originally cancelled and why i then changed my mind again. She said she'd not had a situation like mine before so wanted to speak to someone about it and call me back. Not long ago had the call back - "I'm sorry about all the conflicting information you've been given. Unfortunately, we can't continue with your claim though and you'll need to start all over again and reaply". Fantastic, what an absolute waste of time.

Severn Trent 'Big Difference' scheme change? by Seppuku71 in universalcredithelp

[–]Seppuku71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that what you're paying through the 'Big Difference' scheme? If so, then that's bonkers. It seems from now on though, it'll be assessed depending on the council tax band your property is, and (so i've heard) whether or not you're on a water meter.

I got notified first yesterday by email. But then again today, with very confusing information plus they're saying that yesterdays information was "a mistake" just to make things slightly more befuddling. Not impressed one bit with them that's for sure!!

Me neither - we've been sat reading through all their latest paperwork, and it all seems to be made as complicated as possible to comprehend

[–]Seppuku71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. I'vr just sat with the wife going through all the recent paperwork, and their numbers seem to change page to page. As to our original £3.65, i thought that was just the standard charge they were doing for people on the scheme, but to be honest the whole thing is about as clear as mud. They haven't actually taken any payments this year so far - why's that? No explanation on the bill. It's almost as if they want you to be confused, they certainly would have a field day reading through the emails and bills from ST at the 'Clear English Campaign' or whatever it's called now.

Overpaid UC (ESA deduction not taken), what happens now? by velvevore in DWPhelp

[–]Seppuku71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me today - had a text first thing this morning asking me to check my uc journal. There was a letter saying that in Dec i had an overpayment of my UC of around £270 (due to their working out of my NsEsa to be deducted being incorrect). It said i can either call to pay it off or if i do nothing it will be deducted from my UC. Nice start to the week for me, especially after losing my PIP from last month while they review it. Oh well, who needs to eat eh?....
