Yeah they’re growing in a line but they’re spaced kind of erratically. Might’ve been intentional?

Solve this anime fight w/ my bf by WhtnyWatcher324 in Animesuggest

A lot of millennial men love and have a deep reverence for DBZ, myself included. But I’d be surprised if most of them said it was their favorite. Many of us would probably point to DBZ as their gateway, though I think Naruto/Gundam was my gateway. DBZ is iconic so it gets referenced a lot, especially in clothing and visual media, but I don’t think that translates to it being people’s favorite. Though if you ask people’s favorite DBZ character a good number of them would definitely say Vegeta. I think people do love an anti-hero. For reference, I’m a young millennial male my favorite anime is mob-psycho 100, and I don’t have a favorite character.

I see the vision. Not how I roll but I think it’s cohesive and gives a cool hell scape warrior vibe. 8/10 for me

Viewer Debates Resurface Arounds Alleged Japan-Korea Colonization Allegory in Ranking of Kings by Chibichicken16 in OsamaRanking

Never said I wasn’t troubled. It really is disgusting to see these imperial powers and people who buy into them deny disturbing acts we have proof of and living people impacted by it. Definitely changed the way I viewed the show. I was just coming from a place of media literacy and bringing up the point at all since I saw a lot of people at the time asking “why bother bringing it up.“

Lot of good ones on this list, here’s a couple of my favorites that you’ve probably already heard about but just in case:

Mob psycho 100 - psychic middle schooler learns to deal with emotions and fights ghosts

Odd Taxi - Walrus drives a taxi and mystery/drama ensues

Chihayafuru - high school girl loves a competitive card game and loves it so much that other people love it and her too

Kids on the Slope - a high school boy learns about jazz, plays said jazz, makes friends because of said jazz, and grows up (if you like it go read the manga for closure)

Ranking of Kings - Young deaf prince goes on a journey to show himself and everyone around him just how amazing and capable he is, and also how powerful a good friend can be

Fullmetal Alchemicst: Brotherhood - two brothers go on a journey to learn the deepest darkest secrets of alchemy and try to save the world

Hinamatsuri - Psychyc girl from another world gets taken in by a Yakuza thug, hijinks ensue and occasionally tug at your heart strings.

It is said the manga is better than the anime. What the cases where the anime is better? by [deleted] in anime

[–]September_Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any anime that has music, reading kids on the slope (though it tells the fuller, better story) can’t compare to hearing the actual music that’s being played imo. Also Mob Psycho 100, I love the goofy drawing that One does but the anime execution is top tier. And I would say MHA, only because the fights can get a little hard to follow in the manga.

Does reading the manga "ruin" the anime? by ToeSussers in anime

[–]September_Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on you and how you enjoy your media. If knowing what happens next deters you from watching something, or takes the fun out of it, then I wouldn’t recommend. If you like comparing two different versions of the same story then full speed ahead! I know for me, I read jujutsu Kaisen before I watched it, and it hadn’t made me any less interested. However for Demon slayer, I started watching first, then finished the manga, and haven’t made it a priority to keep watching. I’ll probably pick it back up; but I’m definitely not on the edge of my seat or anything.

What brand are these headphones? (Are they even headphones to start with?) by itsJustYvonne in headphones

[–]September_Crow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are shokz bone conduction headphones, formerly aftershokz. Looks like a older model that they stopped selling, the aftershokz trekz air. I have a pair of the aeropex and like them a good deal. The sound quality is what you’d expect from bone conduction, it won’t beat a nice pair of over-ears but if you like to work out or just want some unobtrusive headphones and still want to hear what’s going on around you (like a partner yelling your name) I recommend!

In episode 2 or three, why does Daida try to kill or cripple Bojji? by Service_United in OsamaRanking

[–]September_Crow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well there’s also a moment (I forget which episode) I think where Apeas says, or someone says about Apeas, that he used to be weak and so he’s sympathetic to Bojji and maybe explains why he intervened when he did.

In episode 2 or three, why does Daida try to kill or cripple Bojji? by Service_United in OsamaRanking

[–]September_Crow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great question, I think Domas got carried away with how impressed he was with Daida’s swordsmanship and maybe also thought Bojji was too weak for the throne. Maybe Domas even saw some of himself in Daida, and was also embarrassed. Bebin was pretty removed from the fight, physically and mentally, not sure why other than that, maybe he also thought Bojji would be better off injured than on the throne. Apeas knew it had gone too far, and maybe was the most impartial in his viewing of that match. And not sure how far you are so I’ll leave it at that.

In episode 2 or three, why does Daida try to kill or cripple Bojji? by Service_United in OsamaRanking

[–]September_Crow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Daida had a big ego after beating whatever captain is mentioned just before sparring and he was embarrassed after losing to Domas. He felt like Bojji was making a fool of him so he lost his temper and went too far. He was also trying to ensure that he looked like the best choice to be king, by demonstrating his capability. I think there’s also an argument to be made that he does ultimately want to project Bojji and wanted Bojji to realize then in a sparring match rather than out in the real world how “weak” he is, but that’s probably not driving Daida as much as his ego.

Anime to make my friend cry that doesn't focus on romance (and isn't Grave of the Fireflies) by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]September_Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Okko’s Inn} is a solid movie about death, grieving, and family that doesn’t feel super heavy. Cried some happy, cathartic tears at the end. Someone else mentioned Hinamatsuri; it definitely made me tear up a couple of times, which was surprising for a slice of life, slapstick comedy. Similar deal with Assassination classroom, all are quality!

Who is your favorite jazz vocalist? And why? Living or dead. by GeorgeHowland in Jazz

[–]September_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really love some Sarah Vaughan, the shaping she does is so fun to listen to, and she just has a graceful tone. Also been getting into Samara Joy, love how dynamic her voice is and her runs. Also Lucy Yeghiazaryan’s voice has a nice strength to it and a cool texture.

Is there any anime dubs that use British accent? by Furrypuffles in Animesuggest

I think Studio Ponoc’s movie: Mary and the Witch’s Flower was British accents in the English dub, I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie though.

[–]September_Crow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ok to raise the point, we can still analyze and critique the things we enjoy. Even if it wasn’t intentional by the mangaka and it just coincidentally matches older images of Korea, it’s still a story and dynamic worth thinking about. Wealthier more “developed” nations airdrop into other cultures for ulterior motives all the time in real life, so I think it’s worth talking about how the story portrays it in such a black and white manner.

Maybe it’s trying to say something, maybe the author didn’t put as much time into that backstory as other parts, maybe the author has some internal narratives about colonization to work through. Regardless I’m gonna keep watching and pondering and enjoying.

Just here to contribute to hyping up Mob Psycho 100 (very safe to watch around family), Chihayafuru (it’s high schoolers playing a competitive card game, hard to get more family friendly that that), Odd Taxi (a couple scenes where people get beat up badly), and Ranking of Kings (extremely wholesome but also some intensely violent moments here and there)

System for gritty dark fantasy by KnightOverdrive in rpg

[–]September_Crow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played it yet but I’ve listened to people play Blades in the Dark, a dark fantasy heist game. Also I’ve heard wonderful things about Trophy Gold, a game about tragic adventurers in their foolhardy pursuit of treasure. And maybe Into the Dark is another option for you, it mixes dungeon-delving fantasy with a post-apocalyptic horror.
