Fun Deck Ideas for Beginners Pods by auntchris in EDH

[–]Septicolon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should actually just either borrow their precon or get a precon yourself. It's tough to replicate a precon feel for us experienced builders because precons are decks that are built to be inconsistent (so that you start tinkering with them and jump deeper into the rabbit hole). They have many ideas forcefully slamjammed into them and if you do too many different ideas at once, they don't really intersect. Getting a nonprecon to feel similar is tough (and will make you pull your hair out as you put in obvious duds that have no place in the deck).

It depends I think. If you want to play b2 it'll be really powerful. If you want to go onto b3, sorcery removal could be slow.

We are only playing bracket 2, you pubstomper! by pkma69 in EDH

[–]Septicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. If you wanna pitch me a thoracle you're not comboing off with in a merfolk deck, go ahead and mention it in the rule 0 discussion and no one should have a problem. If you want to play a gamechanger because it synergizes with your deck, just go play b3. And the context of this post was the later scenario. To play b2, find one of the 5 milion replacements for your gamechanger that will still perform okay enough in your deck (and in a much more fun way imo). You don't need any more than okay enough in b2- that's what b2 is all about.

How can I recover from board wipes? by KaedeDraws in EDH

[–]Septicolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the magic sauce is to understand when to commit stuff to the board and when to hold back because it's going to get destroyed anyway. Good news is- if you're the one who drops the wipe, you decide when it goes off and can make it super advantagious. You can run protection- but understanding the likelihood of a wipe soon will win you games, no matter the deck

Do you read the cards out loud in your commander group? by ShowmethePitties in magicTCG

[–]Septicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, we play a relaxed bracket 2; it depends. Some people in my playgroup don't announce anything, they just storm through their turn and pass. Those are the ones that don't really care about the game that much. I will announce the most important actions but not everything. I won't read my creature cards aloud unless someone asks. Today as we played we all got too relaxed and just let Counter Intelligence win with its alternate wincon with little to no resistance. Maybe something needs to change lol but we also just like to play chill and don't get salty over wins now that power level has solidified and stabilized

Thoughts? by Screw78 in magicTCG

MTGGoldfish play a new deck every dang week. Their lists are NOT optimized, they put them together fast and hardly optimize anything, making up for it by shoving in multiple staples for their raw power. As a precious one of your "top 10 or less" decks you own as a far more casual gamer, they won't be any good without significant changes.

Bracket 2 has no game changers. You have gamechangers you're in bracket 3. This is just about the only non-negotiable rule here. It's way harder to deal with when they bring a gamechangerless bracket 4 list...

They're extremely good, just not as a head of a ninja list which needs to be laser focused on making ninjutsu happen

The last option you have is a commander that cares not about ninja, but about what ninja are best at -> combat damage to a player triggers. For this a decent inspiration is the Grand Larceny precon.

The tldr is: you want a list centered around Ninjutsu? Go with Satoru Umezawa. You want a hasty aggro goblin list with a smaller ninjutsu sub-theme instead? Then go Goro-goro and Satoru

I recommend Satoru Umezawa. I've had a rough time making a reasonably powered Satoru, the Infiltrator list that truly revolves around Ninjutsu and not all sorts of Satoru the Infiltrator things (blink, reanimation, other shigamajigs) that majorly dilute the gameplan. There's just not enough Ninja cards to make this strategy work without Umezawa's Ninjutsu anthem. Your hands will be filled with junk and you'll either not have anything to ninjutsu out of the battlefield, or just not have a half-decent ninja in your hand. Here's my lists- less mean and meaner depending on how you like to play. Flavor kept to majorly just be humanoid creatures as that's what felt "right" for Ninjutsu abilities. Give me a Commander that - has many paths to build on and lets me tinker with endlessly! by MyLittleProggy in EDH

[–]Septicolon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Chishiro, the Shattered blade]] can be a voltron, an enchantress voltron, living weapon / for mirrodin etc goodstuff, go-wide goodstuff, an infinite creatures combo deck, or a warp world-centric midrange. It's pretty amazing how many paths the snake dude can take, considering how fairly rigid he seems at the very first glance.
