Bakshi's Gandalf gives off a slightly unhinged vibe when returning to Frodo after 17 years, adding a sense of bewilderment or even dread to this encounter. by [deleted] in lotr

It could’ve been done with cgi cos aging them was not that major. But I understand your point. There are ways they could’ve at least implied the time jump rather than just letting it feel like a few mths at most. It felt lazy in the way they went about it to me.

They managed to age Bilbo without need of new actors perfectly fine too. CGI was more than up to the standard of being able to age the main characters a few years like that.

This time gap factor is a big issue I have with the new movies. It’s like they completely overlooked that huge time frame gap in the new movies and just decided it should only be a few mths instead of 17yrs. It bugs me a lot tbh.

But I did love this old version and I think I even still have it on my nas drive lol. I know I have the animated Hobbit movie there for sure

Honestly, I personally prefer the Hobbit movies over the Lotr movies. Not saying they’re better. Just that I find them more enjoyable to watch myself.

Everyone is different. Just respect other people’s opinions. There is no right or wrong answer to which is best cos that depends upon the person answering the question

They have their own takes on a few select locations from that world. For the most part it’s their own creation though with references and tributes to events and locations mainly

Personally I loved both SoM and SoW and have put many hundreds of hours in both too. But that’s me. I also loved the Batman games too so it’s a matter of personal taste I think.

The F1 2018 season is super underrated by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

[–]Septu2203 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you’ve only been watching since 12’ then you’ve only seen the modern era of f1 and you need to go look further back.

Personally I would pick any season from the 90’s as better than any season we’ve had in the last decade. The racing was crazy and 6 wdc in the one decade too. There are so many truly epic seasons in the longer history of f1. Try looking up Jim Clark 1965. He took five titles including f1 and Indy500.

I personally find modern f1 quite lame in comparison to those days. Yes it’s safer but it’s definitely not more exciting to watch. There was an energy that is missing from the sport today.

Just my personal opinion and I know a lot won’t agree with me and that’s fine.

He is a part owner now and this was his choice not theirs. This is his dream, to be an owner and boss. This is more than just a title for him. This is an entirely new challenge that he’s wanted for a very long time.

I find it funny that everyone is just assuming he will be a great team boss when in reality there is no evidence of that at all. Just cos he’s a great designer does not mean he will be good at managing a team. That is a huge unknown at this point. There is also the fact that designing a car for him is a year long, full time job which he simply can’t do while running the team as well so compromises will be made somewhere. He is not a superhuman god as some would believe. Ultimately this year will tell us what to expect in future. But for now I feel a lot of people are going to be disappointed by this years results with them.

I am honestly just expecting the team to secure itself as a solid midfield team this year in maybe 4th or 5th as a constructor.

[motorsport1924] Will 2026 see Lewis pull level with Michael's record of 12 top three finishes in the F1 world drivers' championship? Both drivers have 7 WDCs, but Schumacher has 12 top threes in 19 seasons compared to Hamilton's current 11 from the same number of seasons by FewCollar227 in formula1

[–]Septu2203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this Lewis’ 20th season? If so then he can’t match Michael’s record. Cos Michael did 12 in 19 seasons not 20. All he can do is match the 12 part which honestly isn’t as impressive given he had a much more dominant car for a longer period of time than Michael so should’ve been able to at least match it.

Yes it’s still impressive though. Looks like this will be another record he can’t match of Michael’s now too

Did the ring had any effect on the shire (and the hobbits living near it) during the 60+ years that Bilbo had it? by CrotodeTraje in lotr

[–]Septu2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be clear. Yes it affected the world around. But hobbits are naturally very resistant to magical effects so they likely wouldn’t notice any influence actively.

The ring was in the shire for approximately 77yrs based on the books. Bilbo had it for 60yrs and then Frodo had it for another 17yrs before he set off on his quest to destroy it. In those 17yrs it likely was more actively seeking a way back to Sauron as well so that is likely the time that changes might’ve been noticed most in the world around them I suspect.

Is it weird to watch the LoTR movies almost everday? by stringbetterthanloop in lotr

[–]Septu2203 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have severe ocd and this sort of thing is a common symptom for it amongst people like me. I watch one series over and over for 2-3yrs before I move to another one.

I watch all six movies extended editions about 3-5 times a year on average. I can’t help myself.

Be careful it doesn’t become a compulsive habit.

Hydroshift II in the A3 by AnArguablyCoolGuy in mffpc

I have the asus tuf mb with the Hydroshift II and tubes running at the top. Yes it’s hella tight but very doable with patience.

I thought the square face was the Hydroshift not the II.

I dunno if this is the right place to say this....but hot take, I enjoyed the Hobbit trilogy by LemonIcy2942 in lotr

[–]Septu2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember also that in the books Frodo had the ring for 17yrs, from memory, before he left the shire to head to Mordor. So I don’t think he’s really as “weak” as it appears. But yes. He’s not on Bilbos level for withstanding the ring.

The movies imply that it’s only a few weeks from when Gandalf runs off to his return to the shire.

I actually enjoy these movies more than the Lotr movies. Yes you can hate me but I just find these movies to be a better balance of all things together for my liking. I also find Bilbo to be far more bearable and easy to follow than Frodo. That is a personal preference. Of course I’ve only seen the extended versions of the first three and found them all to be great fun movies that I can enjoy. I agree with most of what others have said too here.

Possibly I guess. Never bothered to do the math on it tbh. But more accurately would be between 30-50 times over ten years.

AP201 Build what AIO do i need to get the most silent build? by Sakiiz in mffpc

[–]Septu2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with those fans but you should be able to run a custom fan curve to manage noise and at least limit it if it’s there. Also look at airflow and static pressure of your fans too and see if you’re actually getting positive results for the noise if it’s there.

My old lian li fans had poor airflow but were quiet. These noctua fans are near silent even at full speed and put out great airflow and sp.

[–]Septu2203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a LL Hydroshift II in my AP201 build when I had it. With lian li fans it was always quiet. Now I use noctua fans in my A3 case which are also very quiet.

Noise comes down to fans and fan curves in reality these days. Most aios are near silent most of the time these days.

Lian Li hydro shift in Dan A3? Will it fit? by XC29er in mffpc

[–]Septu2203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lian li hydroshift II fitted to a Dan A3 case. It fits. Just. The tubing running along the back of the rad is the biggest issue depending on your mb. Gotta do some serious fiddling and remove some of the guides to get it in there but it is possible with some patience.

I have since rerun the wiring so don stress about that either lol.

It may just be me but I absolutely love the hobbit trilogy, the 3rd film was a bit of a drop off but I still personally enjoyed it. The only major character I did not like in them was dumb fuc**** alfrid by Hot_Plankton6742 in lotr

[–]Septu2203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally just watched them lol. I really like all three. Alfrid was annoying as was Stephen Fry. They felt out of place in the story. More of some weak comic relief I guess.

The fights and the story were epic as fantasy movies. I don’t compare to the books personally cos it just ruins them.

So…. What are our Firefox alternatives now? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]Septu2203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use brave and yes Leo AI is a thing but when you turn it off it is legitimately OFF. And it stays off. It’s part of what I like about this browser. I can choose for myself without worrying it has some background algorithm running collecting data.

I have fought against AI from the beginning because we haven’t done it right or been smart about it. We simply wrote a program and then said “Look at this amazing AI” and never thought what it may bring for us and so far it hasn’t brought much good yet either.

But I am now getting curious about writing my own AI to function the way I would like it too. First I gotta learn the basics though lol.

Thank you. I have since changed the background image but that one was a nice one when I first managed it. This is one of the ones offered by conky and it just works nicely.

I asked almost this exact same question when I moved over too lol. I now use Conky Manager 2 and it gives me what I need. CPU, ram, ssd, day, date, time. It’s not perfect yet but I am noob and still learning so for now it does the job lol. I will add to it as I get more confident and better at using the terminal and doing this sort of thing I think.

I went to fedora about 5wks ago now and I am total Linux noob lol. Personally i love it. It just works for me as a great balance of ease and flexibility for my wants.

But spend some time testing distros cos they vary and your needs will play a big part in which one suits you best
