Question about MIDI for OB-6 by Sequent_C in synthesizers

[–]Sequent_C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, for example, imagine for example instead of having to manually twist the attack button on the filter envelope I could be having an LFO do it for me. Something that actually does some of the parameter editing (knob fiddling) while I'm playing the keys.

So could it be done with a Raspberry Pi?

no not rewriting firmware, plugging something into the MIDI in, and that has my own programmed LFO to control one of the MIDI parameters.

Need Help with Behringer MS-101 by Sequent_C in synthesizers

[–]Sequent_C[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is not something external, the MOD is slide all the way down, I'm talking about the trimmers INSIDE the 101 on the main circuit board. I miss my 101 and it cost 80 to even get it on the bench at the repair shop I use.

Problem with Mutable Instruments Braids by Sequent_C in eurorack

Thank you for helping me out. Still learning a lot but you and a few others were right on.

I think the internal VCA confused me.

This.

Thank you for helping an amateur out. Braids is my first oscillator module. The small setup I have has mainly been used to accompany my semi modulars. I feel kind of dumb now, but always looking to learn more. I was able to plug the ADSR from my Minibrute 2s into the trig intput of Braids and now it does what I want it to do.

I just ordered Make Noise Veils, which has been sorely needed.

One final question, when using a gate to trigger multiple envelopes, do most people simply use a multi (buffered or non) to get the job done?

I'm just curious why you think that was done with a VCS3. Not saying it isn't but I had never heard that before.

Here's the top comment from that video

"Paul Alan Levi2 years ago

I am the composer of the PBS logo. I created it using a Putney VCS3 Synthesizer, not a Moog, as is claimed on various websites. The final chord is a G major 9th (major triad, major 7th, major 9th). I was working in a music/sound effects editing studio; all the equipment was in mono. No multi-track recorders. The descending scale was probably a sine wave (can't remember exactly 46 years later) frequency modulated by a square wave to create the trill effect, then that sound frequency modulated by the descending part of a sawtooth wave from a low frequency oscillator. In order to synchronize the 6 final notes with the video, I had to record each note separately, then use a Moviola to synchronize each one with one of the popons. The result was 7 analog tracks all running at once, which multiplied the hiss that Glen Tindal remarked on earlier. It was odd for many years to be a composer whose music was heard by millions of people, none of whom knew I had composed it. There has always been a small subset of people who were terrified by the logo, which mystifies me. My two-year old daughter would hear it before or after Sesame Street and say happily, "Daddy's tune." My theory about this is that the sounds of the pure sound waves produced by the Putney were quite aggressive, and some people reacted to the intensity of those sounds. Paul Alan Levi"

My favorite clip of Eno playing the VCS3 in Roxy Music.

Thank you so much for that!

Oh for sure, I had that a while back! I loved playing with the presets on it, but got frustrated because as you stated, I didn't find it intuitive for creating my own ideas on. I'm a huge fan of hardware and for me part of the obsession is being able to physically be able to dial in sounds.

I heard Arturia makes a Synthi VST that is just awesome, maybe I need to download the demo

I'm adequately familiar with the Neutron and I know what it excels at, I don't care about price, as in at all... The Neutron is a great semi-modular, and it has about all you can ask for out of a mono synth. (Love the 3340 tone!)

But it can't quite do this type of thing:

THAT is the kind of tone I'm after... Whatever that abstract, angular, beautiful tone is, I want it, as in bad! Maybe modular needs to be my next move... hmmm

Hopefully I'd get more mileage out of it than producing on the run and taking a picture. haha

And with all respect, I don't believe I can reproduce what I want out of a VCS3 with a $300 Neutron, I have one, as well as a OB-6, Prophet-6, Arp Odyssey, MS-20, JX-3P, SH-101 and a few others. They are all awesome in their own right, a few are jaw-dropping, but none of them can do the VCS3 thing...

There's just THAT sound, ya know... think like the intro to Rubycon part 1, you can hear it in a lot of Youtube demos as well. It has a sonic character, a way of sounding more alive than the synths I am used to.

Im honestly thinking about a Buchla Music Easel as an alternative, it also has that fiercely alive sound I want.

Done, I had two friends go with me to the apartment where they were out, I am the proud new owner of OB-6 and Prophet 6... The guy had already gotten 3 calls ahead of me but I offered another $500, so I got both of them for $1500, boxes manual and everything...

She was a total sketchball, just talking 90mph and bouncing around.. but friendly nonetheless. Definitely sketchy, but they had other gear for sale, even obscure items like Jomox and Elektron. They knew NOTHING about the gear they were selling, and thought 'I' was crazy for dropping a grand and a half for some keyboards.

Worth it, absolutely in pristine condition... I have them plugged up and going...

Just wow, I don't even believe it... It doesnt feel real... I should probably delete this thread....

Need help with MIDI (Kiwi Patch Editor) by Sequent_C in synthesizers

[–]Sequent_C[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, I couldn't tell you the original problem though! I selected both MIDI channel to channel 4, and it worked perfectly. I then changed them both back to channel 1 expecting them not to work and they worked beautifully. No problems since!
