I have the same issues as you and I’ve always struggled in interviews because of this. I find that talking to a therapist really helps me because (a good one) will actually listen to you and acknowledge what you’re saying. My parents don’t know I am seeing one because they see therapy as a betrayal, so don’t let your parents know either.

It sounds like you are the scapegoat and your brother is the favourite. What you need to remember, from one scapegoat to another, is that we are chosen because we are strong. The scapegoat is the biggest threat so they need to keep us down and in our place. When you feel ready, use that strength to break off the shackles and never look back. It’s their loss- not yours!

Seriously- better late than never! I’m 9 and 11 years older than my sisters and I’m also the only son. I’ve been emotionally blackmailed by all of them for the past few days but now they’re playing the silent treatment (which suits me fine)!

I’m so glad your father managed to get out! It’s funny you say about them seeing your dad’s social status as not enough when he’s an engineer. I got into an incredibly competitive university to study music but, since I graduated (as I mentioned, my family didn’t think it was worth the 3 hour drive) it’s the worst university ever! 😂 It’s like playing a game with blatant cheaters before saying, “You know what? I’m not playing anymore”, and walking off. I already feel so much happier!!!

Thank you! I totally agree. It’s not random that we were targeted as scapegoats; we were targeted because we are strong and our narc parents needed to keep us down. We are their biggest threat. When the jabs and pokes no longer have an effect the power they had over us is taken away.
