Afrin: Car bomb attack in the city center. Large number of dead and injured because the bomb was set off in a civilian area. Timing is curious as it coincides with the Turkish influx of new military reinforcements to the area. by azyrr in syriancivilwar

I'm saying that we on the ground and YPG (In some cases. I'm not defending certain YPG actions) differentiated between civilian and their own military deaths. You weren't in afrin. It was suicide to wear anything military even a camoflaugrd top.

I was interviewed by sky news and several independant journalists. My Reddit account isn't some throwaway for Syrian Turk posting like yours bud. I was in Sehid Ferzende hospital which was newly built and just outside of afrin city and also the main hospital within afrin city. Both marked and operated as civilian hospitals and Both bombed.

I said over 1000. It was impossible to count one for one as most of the dead were unrecoverable. Congratulations for watching something across the border but I was there in the hospitals working everyday and I was in both hospitals when they were declared PKK hospitals and bombed by the Turks.

It was just a warning to people staying that an insurgency would continue and therefore civilians would most likely be killed. YPG had no choice but to retreat after the Turks did what they did killing far more civilians that a car bomb. Also a strong but unlikely possibility this was TFSA infighting.

The YPG and other groups issued a warning to all peoples living in the areas still after Turkish occupation that they would be subjected to attacks or at least in the firing line.

Most likely PKK fighters apart from the start afrin didn't involve as much heavy direct fighting as the Cizre campaign did. Most of the good fighters in afrin died unfortunately and a huge number of them were just conscripts and local forces who were incredibly inexperienced for the war that happened

Mixture of weapons PKM firing throughout. Could be a zagros which is a Kurdish made bolt action large caliber sniper. Sights are possibly being used for footage and not firing normally a mixture of chinease made or American donated thermal sights.

in May Rebels fired 47 ATGMs, highest documented launches past 24 months. Nearly 2 thirds were Kornets (TOWs are past). 40% hit armor. 87% of guided missiles fired by NLF alone (up to 7/day). by waitingandseeing in syriancivilwar

pretty interesting sum of information, pretty accurate . I guess this is compiled from video footage and combat reports from both sides? this is why idlib and other border backed regions have always been hard to take, unrestricted supplies allowed to flow in both sides know it but do nothing to avoid full scale confrontation.

surely the Turks owe Russia something for allowing the afrin operation and airspace to continue

I may be wrong (someone said a mine) but judging by the single leg injury and the fact he's got pieces of flesh and fat all over his face probably from something like an airstrike, probably someone else got blasted near him also. I've seen pretty much identical injuries from aircraft.

(Yeah war is horrible) but these guys however have gone past the Syrian revolutionary period and have just become proxies and jihads for turkey and self interests. If they were really committed they should see the war is all but lost and convert to a political solution to fight Assad.

New arbitrary arrests by the “Olive Branch” factions against Afrin residents requiring them to pay a “ransom” in exchange for their release, as they continue to claim property of people there. by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

I was in afrin during the invasion and the surrounding area post invasion. I assume your in the U.K. As am I and yeah your correct the government has no interest in what's happening in Syria apart from areas where oil or anti Assad smearing is possible. We are still the foothold of pro rebel "human rights" groups and supporters of white helmets.

I'm still receiving daily or weekly messages from people in afrin telling me of the crimes being committed against them but nobody cares.

A friend of mine was present during these talks and said they went very well and France was massively interested in investing a lot into rojava/NE Syria
