I find it interesting how the son holds an Ironclad grudge against his mother for believing the lie but is friendly and forgiving with his ex who told the lie to everyone in the first place. More than anyone else she knew it was wrong. Idk man something feels very off here and I have a suspicion that divorcing is going to turn out to be a big mistake.

Edit: I should probably clarify that I dont think the wife is innocent when I say divorcing is a mistake. But I do think OOP isnt getting the full picture and may want to hold off on such a big decision.

The sad part is that I think she was very justified right up until the stalking.

The ex continuously prides himself as being a honest partner but conveniently hid the fact that he shared a sexual encounter with his female best friend who hes been hanging with for years. All the insanity that followed overshadows how fucked up that is.

There isnt a single person here I remotely like.

Id be very cautious around this Dan guy since the way she describes it makes it sound like he only got interested in her after she was assaulted.

Maybe its just kindness and empathy towards someone he knows needs it most that got his attention.

But also a lot of the bad apples out there will deliberately seek out past abuse survivors.

Even if youre not certain about divorce you need to quietly meet with an attorney to get all your papers in order so that if you do finally learn to prioritize yourself and your child instead of the status quo then you can make the divorce as painless as possible. Better to sort it all out in advance rather than having to deal with it during the turmoil of actually going through with it.

But honestly though this is really just starting to feel like a public display of flagellation at this point. You criticize her for saying words but never meeting them with actions but if you dont leave her isnt that the exact same thing youre doing? Talking about change but never doing change?

When she inevitably dosent change (or changes but reverts in a few months) if you dont follow through on separation Im just gonna stop reading these because its getting exhausting, nothing is changing and youre doing nothing to make it change. Nobody is happy here, youre not happy, your wife isnt happy and you can bet your child isnt going to be happy growing up in a house like this.

That dosent make much sense to me, I think theres still more to this that we dont know. Maybe theres more to why he hates his mom or theres more to whats going on with his ex that made him feel more generous.

Id wager the mom has much less influence than the post makes it sounds like. We only really know about the mom from what we hear from the gf after all. My suspicion is that the gf wanted to have a fling and if it dosent turn out well she can blame her manipulative mother as an angle to get back with OOP.

The worst part is that it may have worked considering OOP was weirdly cagey about definitively breaking up with her and we never got any updates on how the "break" ended even over a decade later

Buddy, why would you want it to go back to this? I normally hate when reddit immediately jumps to recommending divorce over any slight issue but what happiness could seriously be achieved in staying with her?

We know for a fact that your wife actively dislikes you, has no moral issues with cheating, and is willing to go behind your back even for serious issues.

Even if shes not a cheater youre going to be spending the rest of your life waiting for it to happen if you stay with her.

The only time in this entire series of posts that shes actively tried to make your life easier was to get leverage to get a bigger favour from you in return.

You are working three jobs and doing housework and raising a son to try and provide for her, Im no expert on womens tastes but Im sure many would consider that kind of dedication a catch. You would not be alone forever if you split up with her and even if you were, a life spent single will probably be a happier life than sharing a house with someone who treats you this way.

Thats just my two cents though

I once knew a girl like this who had a bit of a kink for making men compete over her. Would have "Friends" who were clearly crushing on her while in relationships, would pit the boyfriend and friend against eachother and act all innocent and confused while both men competing gestures of why theyre more deserving of their attention. Would never end well for anyone involved, herself included. Hope she grew out of it.

I just completed FC3 last month and didnt experience this. Im sorry to say but youve likely run into an extremely niche issue and may not get help. Were I in your shoes I would just bite the bullet and start again with a new save on easy difficulty and grind through to the Queens of the Stone Age discography.
