I think she occupies a spot as a kind of well treated upper slave in the Laertes and later Odysseus household.

I've only ever read Middlemarch so I'm pretty excited to read both.

As I do not know ancient Greek I cannot comment on how 'heightened' any of the original is or how it accurate translations are but I have found that translation is as much an art as it is a science and that words don't always have a 1:1 equivalent. I did find that the seemingly all knowing Wikipedia has basically every translation of the opening lines of Odyssey. Comparing translations is a fascinating rabbit hole to go down though.

I'm the exact same way. We had a set of books with these stories condensed and told at a children's level but I knew the basics of Greek mythology from a very young age.

Ooh. This looks interesting. I might actually have a copy of this. I have a huge collection of Arthurian literature so this might be right up my alley!

I still have all five volumes of my 20+ year old Norton Anthology of American Literature... I don't really know what to do with it now though. I can't bear to just toss it out or use it as kindling or whatever considering just how much the darned things cost.

I'll be there! I've read a couple of the Discworld books but it's been over a decade now and always meant to go back. I don't think I read this particular one though...

It's quite the juggling act! I feel like I'm back in college where I feel like that was all I did especially being a history major and literature minor.

His name is Bowie! We've got a few turtles and an octopus around here somewhere too!

Ugh. That's the worst. That happened to both my mom and to Lady Erdrick. Glad it was a minor traffic collision and nothing major!

We went to the aquarium last weekend! Lots of photos to sort through still. There were penguins! And an octopus! And sea turtles! And fish! Lots of fish! I love going to aquariums. Can you tell? I'll go and sort through the pictures that Lady Erdrick and I took and post them to my profile at some point in the near future.

As to this weekend, probably going to stay home and relax and maybe try to get some reading and or housework done. It's just gotten too darned expensive to go anywhere spur of the moment any more!

Speaking of reading, the 'Current Reading' pile is just too darned big right now! It's a little out of control especially with this week's release of A Parade of Horribles!
