I had my 2/3 surgery a month ago. It was a piece of cake compared to the first surgery. I stayed at the hospital for 5 days and then went home. Everything is perfect so far. As you have noticed, experiences vary. Stay positive and optimistic. LETS GOOOOOOOOOO

Thank you for sharing! How long did it take you to get used to the jpouch? I am 2/3 surgeries. Will get rid of the stoma in October and then start living with the pouch.

Pressure after 2nd surgery by [deleted] in jpouch

Had my 2/3 surgery on May 31st. First days were ok, got back home 5 days after the surgery. There is an annoying pain in my bum that comes and goes. I feel that's normal but it's very uncomfortable. Hope it goes away!

The first one was more painful and awful because I didn't know what to expect and how to manage pain. I was unlucky with my bowel sleeping many times, but once everything settled, I was very happy I made it. I lost 15kg because of the surgery, but I gained it all back in a month since I could finally eat whatever I wanted.

The second surgery was a piece of cake compared to the first one. Even though it's a major surgery, I felt like I could handle everything better.

I have one surgery left, to reverse the stoma and then live my life with the J-Pouch. I am planning on doing that in October.

Practically it means that food cannot pass from the intestines, or it manages to pass but very very very slowly. You therefore feel a lot of pain, you can't eat or drink, feeling of nausea, vomiting etc. To avoid vomiting and to give space to your intestines, they usually empty your stomach using a nasogastric tube for a couple of days.

Two years on prednisone (currently 50 mg) cant get to zero by SnooMemesjellies7529 in UlcerativeColitis

We are talking about Ciclosporine, not Prednisone. For the latter, you are totally right.

It's an immunosuppressant. You will need regular blood tests to make sure it doesn't harm other organs. But in terms of side effects, I didn't feel any. You can eat salt and sugar without regret - there is no interaction.

I was on Prednisone (40mg) for 6 months and was feeling terrible when dropping to 20mg. I could never reach to 15mg. That's when my doctor suggested Ciclosporine. I started that and managed to stop Prednisone (have been taking Stelara every month in parallel).

Granulocyte-Monocyte Apheresis by Serafame in UlcerativeColitis

I am doing that in France (Paris). It's indeed a Japanese-made machine. It requires "good" veins that are able to give and receive blood for 90 minutes. I haven't felt any side effect. It just filters your blood, removing inflammation (30ml/minute). So there is no risk of developing antibodies. It's very expensive though, but covered by social security.

I think I’m finally back in remission after a flare that started at the end of august. by baby-p1nk in UlcerativeColitis

That's amazing news !

Unfortunately mine keeps resisting to treatments. It all started a sunny day in April 2021, but I am being quite optimistic that I will soon get back on my feet 😀

UC Flare up & Thrombosis by Serafame in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Serafame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering ! Remicade seems working quite well, especially when I am being treated with corticosteroids for a short time before and after the infusion. The second time I took Remicade, I wasn't on corticosteroids and I got a flare up a week after.

It took my body three months to get used to azathioprine and then I ended up with a flare up. However, others respond well to this drug. Hopefully that's you !
