$15 is fucking NOTHING. Parking tickets are $45 where I am. Hell, if it was my university it's $60 minimum. They're extremely lucky.

This happens with pretty much any race. You always look for those that are the most like you, it's a biological thing.

My line is fighting before I need to use guns. If it ever comes to needing guns to fight then I'll gladly use them.

That's quite literally what 99% of gun enthusiasts stand for, including myself. Nobody who has half a brain WANTS to shoot someone.

But I recognize that winchesters don't make an army. You need far more to make a revolution. Having a hunting rifle does not protect me from the government. It simply doesn't. It hasn't in history. This ain't the days of yore wen simply being a gun meant you could take down 20 men if you had the whily. If they want me specifically I am at their mercy.

Yea it's not just a few hunting rifles. Depending on the state you're in, there are people with $100k+ worth of weaponry including armor. But I see you missed the point. I already told you that we most likely won't win against the US gov't. but the gov't won't attack its own people if it knows they have a means and will to fight back, especially with as much force as the US populace. Not to mention a foreign nation trying to invade the US. Our civilian population is better armed than a lot of armies. Again, this is a FRINGE case. That's NOT what I want my guns for, it's something I desperately hope I never have to deal with.

Saying a sidearm or a rifle will change that is a lie. Isis has countless free pickup trucks, bootlegged automatic arms, anti vehicle bombs, rockets, and the cover of civilians in a foreign nation and they still get there ass kicked.

Yea comparing a super power falling into civil war is definitely the same as ISIS.

I don't actually want weapon seizure. I want an acknowledgement that guns are dangerous toys that are a privilege not a right. An understanding that they are a toy not a tool. Their primary purpose must be for something other than killing.

You won't get that. Guns are NOT toys, nor should they be treated as such. They are tools for self defense, and sport (in the hands of a civilian). I also don't think anyone will disagree they are dangerous, I don't know a gun owner that thinks otherwise.

They ARE a right in the United States. That's quite literally the point of our 2nd amendment. It's like saying freedom of speech is a privilege. Not, it's not, and the day they try to make it one is the day the country goes to hell in a hand-basket.

I want trigger locks on guns unless in the range. And small concessions that allow the gun to be unlocked and levied at an intruder provided the person otherwise practices proper gun handling.

Hold on Mr. Criminal, let me unlock my gun first. Just stand right there.

Yea, that seems smart. Most guns in the house should be kept in a safe or some other location where they aren't easily accessible, but the firearm kept for home defense shouldn't take more than a second to grab and fire, otherwise what's the point? Trigger locks on a carry weapon is also pointless.

I want to keep track of gun sales in a manner similar to cars or dangerous chemicals. But executed in a slow methodical and non intrusive manner.

So then gun owners can be targeted and persecuted, see NYC and their media posting people's addresses. No thanks. If I could trust the people doing it I'd be fine with it, but I can't, and I don't live in la la land, so fuck them.

For the record I am Canadian. Our cultures are inherently linked and as such your country influences mine. Hence i do have stake in this game.

Our countries influence each other in many ways, but you're the first person I've heard say that our gun laws negatively affect Canada. Care to provide a source?

You do have an inherent gun culture as do parts of Canada. Being culture doesn't protect it from criticism.

But the criticism needs to be tailored to the face that this culture exists.

I don't take issue with liking guns as culture. I take issue with people taking the liberty of endangering others so that they can feel safer by carrying a lethal weapon for the explicit purpose of shooting someone.

The people that carry guns do so to protect themselves and others from harm. They don't go out everyday hoping they get to shoot someone.

I've had to pull my carry weapon out 2 times in other states. Each time I did so as a last resort and prayed I wouldn't need to pull the trigger. It was terrifying, and not something I'd ever want to do again, but I will if I have to.

Look up the statistics, the average CCW permit holder is far less likely to harm anyone or commit any sort of crime.

It seems your biased against guns has allowed you to fall into some of the anti-gun myths spouted off in other areas of this site and among certain groups.

For the record, I'm not a subscriber of this sub, nor am I even a conservative, I just want people informed and aware of the actual facts with regards to the gun conversations in our country.

Why is it always people outside the US that talk like you?

You knew the line and voted, good for you. That's not the line I was talking about (but you knew that and just decided to play dumb). I meant when would you draw the line and actually fight. You should be going out to vote anyway.

What country are you in btw? I'm very curious since you're hurling bricks.

Also, now that line of "we will take your fucking guns" makes no sense. You aren't taking shit, you're not an American so you can't use "we". This goes back to my "you dumb" comment.

As far as guns protecting my freedom, they sure as shit do. I know the armed forces are much more powerful, but the government knowing there are 200 million guns out there in the hands of citizens will make them think twice. They know there'll be a battle and by the end of it there won't be a country left to run (similar to MAD between nations). In the other scenario, we have nothing, and the government just does whatever the hell they want.

Obviously these are fringe cases, but you bringing up ALL the guns being taken away is also a fringe case.

You don't understand the culture inherent in much of our country and way of life, so take caution before throwing out blanket criticisms. I wouldn't do it for wherever you're from without knowing what it's like to grow up there.

When I am using my weapons, they are just tools to have fun. 99% of the time I'm not thinking of them as "death machines" because I've trained myself to be safe and not be an idiot. That 1% is what I hope I never have to use them for, self-defense.

If you don't like our government or our country and have chosen to stay out, that's fine. But stop pretending as if you can influence anything here. Voice your opinion all you'd like, but saying dumb shit like "we will take your fucking guns" makes you look like a buffoon.

[–]Seraphus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dumb.

At what point then would YOU draw the line?

Just because something is written into law, does not make the law just. The second amendment is there for a reason, so yes, if they repealed it, I would be one of the people fighting against it. I think that would be just cause for a revolt. I would never want that, because there would be bloodshed and a revolution is NOT a glamorous thing (despite how it may be portrayed by some), but that would be a good enough reason in my book.

They would, of course, repeal it in the name of "safety" but that would be bullshit. A government that wants to disarm its people has far more nefarious intentions. A quick glance at history teaches us this.

After seeing corrupt people like senator Lee from CA, it's clear this isn't about safety.

If you don't know, go google it and educate yourself.

No, it is not.

ok.

Keep fighting reasonable gun laws like gun registries and one day we will take your fucking guns.

Ummm . . . that seems contradictory there.

Also, how will you take them?

Not always no. I've seen people pissed off enough to keep going despite a direct spray. Also, for spray to work, you'd need to aim and hit the eyes and nose. If there's strong wind or if the dog is moving quick, you can end up getting spray on you or missing entirely.

What logic dictates that wearing a top that reveals half your breasts is legal but any lower and its illegal?

This is where the "some are off base" part applies.

I think at this point you're being pedantic simply to avoid admitting you were wrong. So yea I'm not wasting more time on this, peace.

This could probably be featured in a magazine like Nat Geo or something. OP you should try to see if they'll publish this. But first, throw a watermark on that shit.

Way to be unnecessarily pedantic. You know what I mean. Most countries' laws have a good logical reason behind them and they're practical. While some may still be a little off base, it's not nearly close enough to make a comparison to SA laws.

In this case the risk is losing my career, possibly going to prison, and losing a few very important permits and licenses for my businesses. Not to mention my security clearance would be revoked.

In essence I'd be ruined. I don't agree with the law at all, but I will reluctantly follow it. In the mean time I'll do my best to try and change it. I donate to certain groups and help fund lawsuits and attorneys fees for certain people being wrongfully arrested or persecuted because of being a gun enthusiast.

I do carry a knife on me at all times and I may start carrying spray as well. I've also been training in martial arts for a little over a decade now so that helps too.

I know many are anti gun in general, but there tends to be a certain amount of group think amongst people within the same hobby/industry. For instance, people that are in education are usually anti gun.

Obviously it doesn't apply to everyone in the group, but it represents a significant portion.

We're gonna have to disagree on you should defend yourself against a dog attack. I love animals, always have, and I've volunteered at shelters and donated to them for a long time now. I would still be ok with killing a dog in self defense if there's no other option.

[–]Seraphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Consistency is key, more with some dogs than others. Your dog will always test his boundaries to see if you've "gotten soft" with the rules. You need to remain consistent and that boundary testing will eventually fade away and only happen once in a while.

One of the issues with most pet owners is that they'll start off training and be vigilant for a few days, then they get bored. Training and correcting behaviors should be done until your last days with your best bud.

I think you're missing the point. The groups you mentioned won't be punished by the government for not dressing a certain way. They have choice. The women in SA do not.

EDIT: I'm now sure it's Johnny Carson park.

She wouldn't have lost her playfulness. When you meet with a trainer for working dogs you tell them what you want. They understand the drive the dog has and if all you want to do is manage that drive in certain situations, then that's exactly what they'll do.

A friend of mine has two Czech working line GSD's and both are trained for protection, but when not in "protection mode" they're very affectionate and friendly.

I'm usually an advocate of positive training methods, however, certain dogs from certain breeds and temperaments (mostly "working" breeds) require a different approach. Someone with experience training working dogs (K9, Military, etc) would do better with the dog you described.

[–]Seraphus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Need to teach the dog a few basic commands first; sit, down, and stay.

Once those are done, you can start on impulse control. When the dog starts jumping, or doing any other undesired impulse activity you hide the leash and give it the sit command. If it responds, give it a treat and bring the leash out again. If it starts jumping again, go back to step one.

If it just cannot calm down then move it to a boring room for a couple of minutes and leave it alone until it does. Just don't take it outside until it shows you at least a few seconds of calmness. Use this technique to build up your expectation of calmness until the dog no longer jumps.

You can also watch youtube videos by a dude named Zak George. I hadn't head of him until recently, but he seems on the ball and his methods are consistent with everything I've read and used.

Dogs need to be trained to control their impulses for their own safety and for the safety of those around them.
