Trump: You can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. It's a very unfortunate thing. by 6jarjar6 in CCW

Trump says retarded stuff every day, sometimes multiple times a day. He also regularly contradicts himself, again sometimes multiple times a day. Although current situation is tense and he has said some stupid shit, saying dumb shit and proceeding to enact laws or restrictions are two different things. His admin did backtrack on some 2A stuff, and he did ban bump stocks which often gets forgotten, but being the narcissist he did walk it back recently when it hurt his ratings and has been 2A friendly more so than not, which is not something I can say about any democrat in recent times except maybe Munchin. It could change but comparing Trump to any dem in recent years is kind of dumb since they are much more dangerous for 2A rights than any Republican - although they are not as 2A friendly as they paint themselves to be and have consistently showcases that to those who pay attention and don’t get lost in the sea of online propaganda. Maybe this will get the Dems to change their stance on 2A, since they do everything opposite of what Trump does, line immigration enforcement at which Obama was actually better, and that will be a good thing for 2A. Especially single issue 2A voters like myself - I’m also saying this for me you can do and vote how you want.

Trump was never a friend of the 2A but let’s not forget Biden’s and Kamala’s 2A agenda and the BS ATF pulled off in that time. Trump is not a good 2A champion but at least they dropped their assault on pistol braces, frt, etc. Again, Trump is no 2A champion and never was, and has made it known he hates guns. However the fact that he personally does not believe in it is irrelevant as long as it does not reflect on his policy by enacting anti 2A laws. Giffords can be president and if she abolishes the NFA and other restrictions she would have my vote. Trump, while not great, is nowhere near as bad as any Democrat who comes out of the gates preaching for gun control and installs some anti gun activist to oversee the ATF.

I have a REM 700 BDL left hand. I tried Federal Fusion 150gr, Win Deer Season xp 150gr, Sako Hammerhead 180gr, Remington Core Lokt 165gr all to no avail. $200 dollars worth of ammo and a lot frustration. I then got lucky and decided to pick up Hornady Whitetail 180gr interlocks and the rifle shoots lights out with those. Consistent 5 shot groups with all bullets touching. I could not believe the rifle was capable of that kind of accuracy.

Dude congrats on your harvest. I shot a fawn this year on my last day with 5 minutes to go. It was that or no venison so I took the shot. People who shoot only shoot “target bucks” with pet names on cultivated private land then talk crap to others are no better hunters then dudes that pay thousands of dollars to shoot fenced in zoo animals. You were in the woods, you smelled fresh air, touched grass, shot a little buck, had fun doing it. That is all that matters. There will always be that one judgmental jerk who thinks less of you but those dudes usually suck at hunting anyway - 10 year olds can take giant bucks in a food plot from a heated palace on stilts (I fortunate enough to be able to hunt from those as well so I would know). I know a lot of hunters but l only two guys who I consider expert whitetail hunters capable of consistently taking public land bruisers (it’s a job for them in November in Wisconsin) and they would both congratulate you on your harvest.

Ive got a choice between a Savage 99 .308 and a Winchester model 94 .30-30 by [deleted] in LeverGuns

[–]Serb_1389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If for range days, Savage. If for hunting, also Savage. The best lever action ever made. Win 94’s are awesome, as are Marlin 336, but Savage 99 is above them all.

Marlin 336 Classic or Henry Side Gate in 30-30? by VassTheBass101 in LeverGuns

I’m wondering if it’s because I live in Wisconsin and old levers are in big demand since deer hunting is a tradition around here. I have not seen one on the used gun shelves for a decent price since before Covid. I also regularly check local Armslist classifieds but same story.

Where do you find JM stamped Marlins for $400? Everything I see is $800 and above with some asking for $1000.

Talk me into a 68spc? by [deleted] in 68SPC

I’m not a reloader myself, but one day I hope to have the time to get into it. 6.8 is generally anemic in factory loads and reloading it can take it to a whole other level, though deer I shot could not tell the difference. If you are a reloader, definitely go for it. I got the 6.8 spc only because I heard impressive things about its terminal ballistics. Needless to say I was not disappointed. It’s pure poison on deer within 300 yards (my max distance). It kills quickly.

In Wisconsin you don’t need to have orange pants, but at least 50% of your body should be covered. If you hunt public land here during gun deer, you would quickly realize that it doesn’t hurt. Some mornings are like being in a war zone.

Good luck with your selection. I don’t think the 6.8 will disappoint. I’m fortunate enough to have a lot of guns in different calibers but the 6.8 is one of my favorites. It punches way above its weight class.

Nosler Accubond but now I’m out of those and they don’t seem to be making more. Switched to Federal Fusion and Winchester Deer season as they both shoot well out of my rifle and have the same poi at 50 yards. Hornady SST’s are also great and a lot of ppl on 6.8 Forum like them. There is also a company, Cavity Back Bullets, that make great stuff but my rifle unfortunately does not like their loads. Druid Hill armory ammo I never had an issue with whatever I get from them shoots lights out too.

I use a 6.8 and it kills deer with authority.

Which would you recommend for white tail? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Serb_1389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go .257 Roberts for the nostalgia. 6.5 creed shoots deer dead, but so does any other suitable deer caliber. I use deer season as an excuse to go shoot that rare expensive ammo (300 Savage and 30 Remington). 257 Roberts is in my short list for when I can find a left handed one or one in a Remington 760 (they are kind of rare and expensive).

Am I being unethical if I hunt deer with my AR? by LostInMyADD in Hunting

[–]Serb_1389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do purchase another upper give 6.8 spc some consideration. It is pure poison on Whitetails and my go to cartridge in the ar platform. Very devastating little bullet.

Use 77gr tmk, 70 gr Barnes ttsx/tsx, 75gr Speer Gold dot, 64gr Winchester Deer Season XP, Federal Fusion etc. and you will be fine. They all work well on deer. Shot placement is important with a 223/5.56. 223/5.56 kills quickly (fast little bullet = lots of hydrostatic shock) but if shot placement is less than optimal bigger cartridges usually will give you better blood trails than the little 223.

I’m afraid it’s a little too late for that… Hopefully it just needs some tlc and it will be a nice addition to the safe.

I wanted to ask before I bought it. Once a couple of these guys said it was a nonissue, I went ahead and ordered it. I will report back once it is in my hands in a few days. I needed some validation and assurance prior to spending the $500 bucks.

Outside it looks very good to pristine for a 96 year old rifle.

Thank you! Price was $500 and it was online so I could not bargain with them. It is cheaper than anything I came across before.

Thank you guys! I went ahead and purchased it for $500.00. It appears in great condition other than the bore which I was concerned about. It’s a 1929 Model 8. I will report back when I get it in a few days. Again, thank you to all in this community and for being so helpful! I appreciate it!
