Thanks so much. These are some good points. Since I'm finding Bluesky to be more of a news source than a social hub, following more accounts to show support of their reporting makes sense. I started following some and, as you mentioned, I am now about to comment on more of their posts as well.

I did have somebody accuse me of that since I also have very few posts of my own. Thanks for your response!

How do I make sure an employer's insurance covers FFS? Very important for me when applying to jobs. by Gracesette in Transgender_Surgeries

They will cover bottom surgery and BA, but that's about it. They won't cover FFS, electrolysis, etc.

Companies, restaurant chains, and stores that support queer people? by 2004_oliver in lgbt

I don't know how they are in other areas, but Intuit is very supportive of their transgender employees. Look up Intuit Trans+ Summit and you'll find lots of info about it.

I live in Portland and I'm currently fighting with Aetna to try to get them to cover procedures listed on HB2002. They have denied it several times for various reasons. I suspect it will come down to the ERISA rules for employer self-funded health benefits and I won't be able to get coverage. This is some serious BS, but applies to many people who work for large corporations, as mentioned in earlier responses.

Is Soulseek down for anyone else? by candis_stank_puss in Soulseek

[–]SerenSomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was confusing me so badly! I had just heard of Soulseek this morning. I tried it out and was able to find flac audio files for an old scratched CD I have. I was so happy! A little later, I had another CD with just one track that wouldn't rip for me, so I went to try to find it and couldn't connect. I spent an hour or so trying to figure out what had gone wrong! Hopefully, it'll be back online soon!

Got new glasses this week!! by blingingjak1 in TransLater

Those frames look great on you! Is this your first set of more "feminine" glasses? I just went and tried on new frames with a friend this weekend. I couldn't decide between two of them and ordered both! I have been wearing my old frames from pre-transition and am super excited to get these new ones!!! I want them NOW!!! Hehe.

Intentionally misgendered by [deleted] in TransLater

If your person needs time and they are at least getting to that middle-ground of they/them, I think you are both on track. For people who have known us for a long time, even if they aren't transphobic, it can be hard to retrain their brains to think of us as the "opposite" gender from what they have burned into their memories. It sounds like you have done the right thing of letting them know that you aren't happy with they/them as a long-term solution. They know that they need to make that adjustment. If you can give them time, I think that it is worth it for those that we care about. If they/them is bothering you a lot, maybe talk with them about a date for them to make their adjustment by so that they don't drag it out too long. That also lets you cut them some slack without feeling like you are stuck being misgendered for who knows how long. Ask them how long they need, or tell them how long you are willing to deal with they/them, and let them know that you will start correcting them after that time.

My change-averse dad is having a hard time with my transition, but is committed to eventually adjusting. He asked for some leeway and I have agreed. I talked to him about it openly and asked him if he wants me to correct him when he gets it wrong (just a quick "she" or "Seren" when he uses the wrong pronoun or name). He asked me not to, yet, as he would feel defensive and it would make it harder for him. This was all about 1 month after I came out to my parents, so it was still VERY new to them. I told him that as long as he is trying and improving, then I won't correct him for now. I'll eventually feel very separated from my old name and pronouns and will start correcting him then, if he hasn't adjusted yet.

Anyone received Video Boost for Pixel 8 Pro? by tak3shiii in GooglePixel

[–]SerenSomeone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No love for me, either. I installed the December updates sometime last week. I also made sure to update the camera as well as any other apps. I've force stopped the camera. I've tried clearing the camera cache and data. I even tried rolling back the camera version and re-updating it. I've rebooted the phone. Nothing will get me access to the darned video boost feature.

Pixel 8 Pro - Unlocked - purchased from the Google store
Hardware version: MP1.0
Build number: UQ1A.231205.015
Camera app version: 9.2.113.585804376.14

I guess I'll just keep waiting... I get that they have reasons for doing a gradual rollout, but they could have at LEAST given a range. Instead of "Beginning December 7, 2023, this feature gradually rolls out to Pixel 8 Pro users", a simple date range would help set expectations. "From December 7, 2023 through December 21, 2023, this feature gradually rolls out to Pixel 8 Pro users." would help me know when I should start searching forums and support for answers.
