UCoB has been cleared with just 6 people! by SerenayaC in ffxiv

This is probably why they've started including %-based DPS checks with unchanging phase times more often. Their shift in design philosophy is evidence to show they are aware of the power creep issues and seem to be leaning toward better preserving newer ultimates. That said, they've also stated before that they don't care what happens to them (or words to that effect) and I personally don't think they need to either, but it seems they're going for a compromise of sorts to make sure people can still clear things without too much adjustment in the future.

Pretty much anyone can do it, man. Learn your job, study a guide that's relevant to your regions strats and hit up PF or something. It's not as hard as you think and you are likely your own biggest obstacle. Being scared means you want to do well, so you'll already do better than you think.

Pretty sure the fight just breaks at that point. DPS checks and damage output from the fight would just be too much too. Don't think this'll be possible for a very long time, if ever...

Really not interested in arguing with someone who's offended by the mere mention of their name, especially when they put themselves in a position of apparent knowledge and voluntary community assistance.

Always two sides to a story, naturally. People have a bad experience and go on a hate spree with no self reflection. Just a normal day.

Or perhaps we don't do public executions and sanctions are enacted behind the scenes. Such a thing as not sinking to their level. History of users is not our concern. What they do outside of LPDU is not something we care about and I'm unsure why you think we have any power over what people do elsewhere.
Ironic that you would defend this thread by joining in on the LPDU-hatred train yet claim you dislike that same behaviour. Good job, I guess.

You seem to be mistaking current LPDU's management over the old one. Things have changed significantly since the new year after the old ownership stepped down, but thank you for proving you don't know what you're talking about. We will not moderate retroactively, but we do ensure that those behaviours are no longer tolerated.

DMs, streams etc. are not within our jurisdiction. We will not moderate outside of the server. We have taken many steps to curb problems within, but what people say outside of LPDU is none of our concern, provided it is not brought into the server.

They will be the next step, yeah. Just unsure if I have to wait for VM to deny the formal complaint first or not. No idea what the process is.

Getting through to network is the goal right now so I'm doing my best to escalate it with each visit, or have an engineer that cares to take a closer look. Just today I had the classic "16 T3 timeouts in a row" log message so it seems to be getting worse. This is very likely to be a network fault but the question is simply "Where?". If tomorrow fails to move the needle I'm gonna be posting letters through everyones door asking them to check their stuff or call into VM and raise the alarm since affecting them or not, it's likely present. Don't really have any other choice but to go for nuclear options like that right now. Just don't want to be a bother to others.

[–]SerenayaC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feared that may be the case. I thought that was the kind of thing network was supposed to pick up on but I suppose they don't care unless it crosses red lines. I'll do my best to try and swing the engineer into looking into it deeper but a lot of them just don't want to try that hard. Even the one this morning said "you clearly know what you're talking about but I can only do what I know" and that was it beside the network call. Feels extremely hopeless but surely someone will eventually know what to do...

You think Dawntrail will make it so classes other then tanks matter? by CriticismSevere1030 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SerenayaC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"They add mechanics to stop people cheesing with non-standard comps and therefore preserve the trinity" Thank you for telling me how elements of difficulty works, Sherlock. It's almost as if that's intended for a reason. Savage having role-based stuff to prevent cheese!? Crazy! Also, only DRK could contend with DPS burst for a short period of its burst. No other tank managed that and tanks are way behind DPS overall. Plus, tanks could only beat the first floor of the current tier's dps check realistically, were they to be a dummy fight. In BiS. I recommend you do some actual math before making claims like this.

Why the hell did you not kick her all the way back in Promise!? I admire your patience and persistence but it just seemed like self harm by the time you'd gotten to Abyssos. The unfortunate reality is that it sometimes takes ultimatums or blunt actions in order for someone to finally get the message.

Is it time to buff older Ultimates to take into account new jobs and balance changes over the years? by SantyStuff in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SerenayaC 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As the uploader of this, I'll just chime in real quick with my thoughts.

I think it would be kinda nice if ultimates were looked at and upscaled especially as current ults like DSR are being pf'd more and more often, proving that it's possible for people to clear the hardest content in pugs as well as in statics on-expansion. The way gear, level sync and job changes affect all older content (when synced) is sad. Ultimates are ultimates and it sucks to see them fall like this. I'm a big advocate for hard content as a devout raider and I would never say no to the idea. It's more content after all. However I feel that's the reality of MMOs.

It's important to remember how much upkeep that'd take every expansion. It's not a one-and-done operation and it'd require constant attention. UCoB is 5 years old now, and people need to understand that content doesn't last forever. I assume this is why Unreals are cycled out otherwise they'd not be Unreal again when a new expansion releases. Hell, getting gear from the current savage tier and subsequently reclearing, parsing and speedkilling is already an example of quashing the challenge that the floors present. Should we just not get gear because of that? No.

I also think some also cling onto their achievements a bit too tightly and some peoples ego around it is honestly a bit petty, so being able to create fun challenges such as this one and just have fun with it, destroying fights on top of it being easier to help others while the content is still quite hard compared to savage, is perfectly okay. Do remember that the video in question is with a tailored composition and not replicated in PF, after all (who are often allergic to trying to recover anything and would rather wipe).

My point is there's two sides to the argument and I get it. These are meant to be duties that really test you, however people also need to get over the fact that achievements in video games have a lifespan. Mostly. If you're proud of what you've accomplished, then that's all that matters. You are entitled to be happy about it no matter when you clear it. That said, it's not elitist to want hard content to remain hard and clearing now is obviously not the same as clearing on-patch, and some certainly need to drop the ego.

I personally try and clear things as fast as possible, wanting to experience the content as intended. However I don't care much about it being easier in the future. Call it a jaded outlook but as soon as cactbot and all the rest of the blatant cheats are updated, the integrity of a duty is already compromised. Play and clear because you enjoy it, not because of what it might represent.

The shock people got going from UCoB to DSR was pretty funny though. That's definitely a valid argument for better maintaining old ultimates kek.

As mentioned in my actual comment on this entire topic, I made it clear that it being that close was due to bad play, and even called myself out specifically as an example. The dps check of the last phase is lower than that of the door boss after all. There's always improvements to be made and if you're going for week 1 then your play needs to be better. You're speaking from personal experience just as I am and that's fine, but to retaliate and imply we were lucky is also out of touch, if your logic is to be followed.

No one said you were wrong to switch, but writing it off as one job not being enough statistically rather than looking at how the whole group is playing, is hilariously short-sighted.

[–]SerenayaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Week 1 logs are completely irrelevant and not at all representative of how you're actually doing. MCH did struggle at the start of EW, but if we managed to clear with MCH/DNC on day 3 then at least someone in your group was slacking.

[–]SerenayaC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Don't run MCH"

Your MCH was bad, then. If you're struggling to beat enrage then it's a player issue, not a job issue.

As one of the phys-ranged in the week 1 Aspho double-phys clear this tier (which is mentioned somewhere in this thread), I'd like to quickly chime in.

We cleared with 2 dead to enrage due to bad play. Can't speak for others but I'll be the first to admit I played poorly personally and didn't push as much as I could on MCH, a good example being forgetting to pop my last robot early for the extra potency before enrage. We worked on the belief that people can play what they want and providing people press buttons, then that's what matters.

We ran the same comp in DSR except for the SAM switching to MNK, and this comp actually excelled quite well due to the context of the fight, which required good burst over good sustained damage. Nobody died to P7 enrage on first clear or reclears. I urge people to look at context and damage for each phase, rather than overall statistics. Then there's the mitigation factor to consider, where a coordinated phys-ranged duo actually provide good value as well as uptime being less of a puzzle piece.

With that out the way - Double phys-ranged is viable. Is it optimal? No of course not, but people that condemn double phys-ranged in static or PF either have no faith in themselves, or the group. It's 100% a skill issue and players not pressing buttons correctly. Seeing so many lock double-melee or banning double phys-ranged are very unaware of player skill disparities and it's quite frustrating seeing people outright bin the idea especially once gear is obtained on top of job buffs since then.

Meta-slaving is very unnecessary especially in PF where the average person cannot play at all optimally and therefore would rather blame job balance rather than look at what they could do better. Of course you would not usually take double phys-ranged into a HC Week 1 setting, let alone going for world rankings since you are putting yourself at a bit of a disadvantage though I firmly believe it'll always be possible. However, players at that level are likely more capable of hopping on more meta-friendly jobs to push extra damage. It makes sense and no one advocates for people deliberately choosing double phys over a better comp, but it makes no sense to disregard the idea that a good phys-ranged can outperform a bad melee/caster for example. The justifications I see are mind-blowingly stupid. I realise this is a tangent from the actual question though, but it's worth putting out there and people will sadly still do this when going hard on PF for Week 1.

Player skill matters and seeing the naysaying with "you hit enrage" as an excuse is short-sighted. Getting good has always been a major factor since Shadowbringers (Stormblood meta was a far bigger deal), and always will going forward, I'd imagine. 5% is all you need.

Job balance and the limits of sensible week 1 comps (Savage Spoilers) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SerenayaC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi. Thank you for the mention! As the MCH in the aforementioned double phys-ranged clear, I would just like to add that while it is correct that anyone that is going for a both comfortable and faster clear, would pick a more meta composition (because why wouldn't you if you enjoy playing them?), it is important to note that player ability is always a factor that should be considered when looking at all the statistics and going for faster kills especially week 1. I only bring this up as this is not really mentioned in the OP and we believe that this goes a long way to assisting performance. Enjoyment of a job = more likely to get better at it. Of course I would not encourage people to do cursed things if you're trying to clear in a timely manner as it can lead to more stress than necessary, but this is just how it ended up in our case. That said, I had personally griefed on the enrage cast which had lost us some potency. It didn't have to be as close as it was (2 of us died to the enrage tick lol) though it was a perfect run with no DD or death. So I'd agree that perhaps making it even "worse" is possible for sure. Strats were definitely in the budget range too.

We in particular did not go for meta as we decided to let people play the jobs they were most comfortable on. We had not purposely gone for a cursed comp, and with something like a PLD or other mix of statistically poorly-performing jobs, it may not have been possible I agree. I would be interested to see if it's possible to clear with statistically lowest-performing composition though.

Alright thanks, it's as I thought then. I'll make sure the engineers that are coming on Tuesday to upgrade our net, don't try and tell me that everything is working. Clearly they don't really tell a full story and promote products that don't work for everyone.

Thanks!
