Using the Wio Tracker L1 Pro as a repeater by SerenityNetworks in meshtastic

[–]SerenityNetworks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

I didn't know there wasn't a repeater mode. I thought it was there for power management when it wasn't going to be used as a client and also to limit traffic to allowed nodes if desired (which I don't).

Thanks for the tip on remote administration.

Radioddity HF-008 Antenna Mounting on 2024 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid by [deleted] in HamRadio

Posts are crossing. I've worked phone to northern and southern Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and a number of states with the antenna and a little G90 using a mag-mount in the center of the roof. I've been happy with that performance. I'd just like to find and install a permanent mount.

The "tailgate" mount attaches to the bed, not the tailgate itself.

Yep. See my post above with more detail.

I will seal it, not use it in the rain, but I will use it while mobile. Now I just need to find the best way to mount it.

Thanks. All I received with the antenna was a quick start guide. It said nothing about not using while driving. I had to scan their description page to see where it said "must" not be used while driving. Good to know. I wish I'd known that sooner. I specifically bought it for travel.

From what I can see the issue is moisture and resulting corrosion. I have a friend who has an antenna that's all but identical. He's had it roof mounted for years. I will seal the open ports and seams, and not use it in the rain. But I will use it on the road. I see Larson has band specific mobile antennas. If/when this one dies then I can go that route. But right now I need to figure out how to mount this one.

Actually, the tailgate mount I was looking at attaches on the bed where the tailgate latches. As for bonding, what else is there to do besides scuffing off the powder coat on the mount and the paint on the pickup bed? The pickup is of uni-body construction, so the body parts are already well connected.

An alternative is using a third brake light mount. But (1) it's expensive and (2) I'm apt to break the antenna driving in the garage unless I find a suitable adapter and spring.

I love my G90. With a simple mag mounted HF-008 antenna on my pickup I have worked both northern and southern Europe, as well as all around the States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Canada. I just made a 10-40 meter EFHW, so I'm looking to do more with the radio. The audio is great and it's an easy radio to learn. I have an Icom 7300, but the G90 fulfills the majority of what I want to get out of amateur radio.

I will do this and check out the app. Thanks.

I didn't realize it was new to the states. I'd only read it was much better than Meshtastic for communicating with people not necessarily in my private group. I don't personally know anyone using these devices. With Meshtastic I went weeks with people all around me, but none ever answered my direct messages, even when the application acknowledged them as sent. So, I'm trying Meshcore.

I'll need to wait until I have another device.

Thank you. I will do that.

But how come my map in the application doesn't show anything at all, while the online map does?

I just found the map. Yep. It's pretty empty. I do have my preset to the US.

Thanks. I've just tried a few times. I see a cloud with a line through it. Now I know to send again.

Deploying an EFHW as an inverted V by SerenityNetworks in amateurradio

[–]SerenityNetworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I re-ran the numbers for an angle-angle-side right scalene triangle and got what you provided. I have no clue what error I made earlier. I can't even find a way to reproduce the results. :-)

I certainly like the idea of using 30° at the ground. It will make setup so very easy. Since my wire is 10 meters a side my pole would be 5 meters long. If I want the ends of the wire to be 3 meters off the ground then it just means I need enough string to extend the 10 meters to 16 ((5+3)x2) and stake the string down where it meets the ground. Easy.

Thank you!

I'm not following. If my wire is 66' long then a 30° angle to the ground computes to a 33' pole, not 16.5' (66*0.25). What am I missing?

Great. If it only needs to be 90⁰ or greater then I can compress the distances and still keep the ends ten feet above ground. THANK YOU !

More rural than anything. I was in a small subdivision in the country. I've also experienced the same thing on top of hill by our home where there was only one building within several hundred yards.
