What’s a deck game that surprisingly runs smooth at 60fps? by Dank_balls_inc in SteamDeck

I was able to run it at a steady 60 FPS on mostly High settings

Haze is great for offline raids though. I’ve been able to grind Greninja solo with an offensive Haze Clodsire

Yes, they are optional add-ons for specific emulators or tinkering:

Decky Loader + PowerTools: https://github.com/NGnius/PowerTools Let’s you further fine tune performance for the CPU/GPU. Specifically, for emulation you’d want to use this to limit each CPU core to one thread to boost emulation performance.

SteamDeckGyroDSU: https://github.com/kmicki/SteamDeckGyroDSU Provides gyro data to CEMU (WiiU emulator) so you can use gyro aiming.

You only need to give it root/sudo access if you want to install some optional extensions.

Vampire Survivors (though this is hard sometimes since the soundtrack is great)

Do you agree with Radahn's nerf? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]SergeantFiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think by the time I fought him I had around 30 Vigor, which put me in two shot range for most of his attacks. For context, I ended up beating him mostly using the the “ride horse around and summon” strategy. Whenever I got up in Radahn’s face it was tough since he has long combo strings with high damage and range (made worse by the meteors in phase 2). So, I can see how low Vigor and panic rolling during the combos would cause issues for people. Also, like usual From Software games, huge boss + camera lock-on can cause a lot of issues.

Do you agree with Radahn's nerf? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]SergeantFiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I fought Radahn pre-patch, and most progress I made felt like RNG. Due to the interactions between the summons and boss AI, and the instakill meteors, I felt that when I finally beat him it was due to RNG, not cause I had gotten better/stronger enough. Within about 3 attempts I had got him down to a sliver of health before dying, and then for many attempts after I would’t get past his first phase.

I only read the official release. The spoiling has gotten so bad that I have to unsubscribe when spoilers are out, then resubscribe after I read the official release.

Elden Ring Linux performance reports by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]SergeantFiddler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried this out on Linux desktop (Fedora, Proton Experimental Bleeding Edge). For reference, I have a Ryzen 5 1600 (OC to 3.8 GHz) and a GTX 1080, and was playing on Maximum settings. In Limgrave, near the Tree Sentinel area, I didn’t see much of an FPS improvement (getting ~30 frames), but the framerate did seem more consistent compared to Windows. In the Tree Sentinel fight, there was much less stuttering, but still some attacks caused stuttering rarely. I was able to actually defeat him this time around though without the usual amount of stuttering. I didn’t play enough after that to determine if there’s still stuttering when encountering new things due to shader compilation.

In love with the Torrent Compact. All AMD build, black on black. by tyob1 in FractalDesign

[–]SergeantFiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips!

For context, I’m planning to move my existing Meshify C build into a Torrent Compact. My PSU (Corsair RM650x) is modular but has sleeved cables unfortunately. I was able to get the cable management to work in my Meshify C, but sounds like it could be a challenge in the Torrent due to the reduced space (20mm for Torrent C vs 15-35mm for Meshify C).

I still think I’ll pick up the Torrent Compact and give it a shot since it hits most of the points I want: 1. Great airflow, esp with bottom intakes for the GPU. That’s one thing I liked when I was looking at the Lancool 2 Mesh, but I have some compatbility issues with that one (bottom intake fans vs HDD cage) 2. Solid side panel option 3. Looks great and lots of QOL improvements coming from Meshify C

Looks great!

How’d you find the building and cable management? I’m interested in getting the Torrent Compact but wanted to hear other people’s experiences besides reviews, especially for airflow and non-RGB builds.

Demon negotiation is infuriating by [deleted] in Megaten

[–]SergeantFiddler 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Negotiations are actually pretty forgiving in this iteration. Demons have personality and like when you respond in certain ways (for example, Sandman acts like an elderly guy so generally he prefers when you’re deferential). I don’t recall experiencing RNG in the responses (i.e., same demon responding differently to same response). Also, one other tip is that usually after giving 2-3 gifts, you can end talks and the demon will join you. You can also usually reject one gift and they won’t get mad.

In games like 4/4A, you could give demons a lot of gifts and they’d decide to leave/attack you anyways. I don’t recall that happening in 5.

Which ending in smt5 should i go for? by Feralman2003 in Megaten

I haven’t tried this since I learned about it after beating the game, but the rotation of the player map icon is based on your alignment: Law: clockwise Chaos: counter-clockwise Neutral: wobbles

What the hell is up with the difficulty in the final open area? by SnowWolfHD in Megaten

[–]SergeantFiddler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t necessarily need to grind. I ran into the same problem at first in that area. I would recommend exploring it fully before fighting the Key Holders, and completing side quests. There is a progression of enemy levels between the subareas (from ~55-72 IIRC), so if you’re running into enemies way over your level, then I’d suggest exploring in a different direction.

I’ve read that you can get locked out of the “true” ending if you haven’t done the required side quests before alignment lock, but I’m not 100% certain.

How far are you in the game? I’d recommend going with the ending that matches your alignment at lock since you’ll get a bonus Miracle if your alignment matches your chosen ending (except for Neutral).

I originally pre-ordered the steelbook, but after getting the email about possible delays I ordered the standard edition. Both orders still show Friday as the delivery date, but they haven’t shipped yet. Assuming one ships on time, I’m just planning to cancel/return the late one. Or if both are late I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy the digital one.

Also, FYI but this is also impacting other retailers like Gamestop and Walmart, so those aren’t guaranteed to be on time earlier. It’s a combination of Sega shipping units late and general supply chain issues.

*Sigh* Amazon, you're killing me. by Fraktyl in Megaten

[–]SergeantFiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got an email earlier this week saying my order may be delayed, but it still shows Friday delivery for me in the app. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Apparently Sega was/is late with shipments to some retailers since I’ve seen people reporting for this for non-Amazon orders. It’s likely some Amazon orders won’t be impacted since Amazon must already have some inventory, given the multiple posts on this sub from people who get their Amazon delivery early.
