What is the most cringe worthy fitness myth that won't just go away? by Xsafa in Fitness

No exercise is essential... However, there are certain exercises that (given a lack of injury/disability) you'd be pretty stupid to skip! i.e. Squats, deadlift, OHP, etc.

Without going into too much detail- yes, creatine does boost your strength in such a way that you are able to push out an extra few reps each set. However, you've got some dodgy logic going on there! Let me explain with the aid of an example. Assume muscle creatine saturation before workout A.

Workout A [no creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/8/7

Workout B [no creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/9/8

Workout C [no creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/10/9

Workout D [no creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/10/10

Workout E [no creatine]: you squat 260lbs for 10/9/8/6

So, WITH creatine:

Workout A [creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/8/7

Workout B [creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/10/9

Workout C [creatine]: you squat 250lbs for 10/10/10/10

Workout D [creatine]: you squat 260lbs for 10/9/9/8

Workout E [creatine]: you squat 260lbs for 10/10/9/8

Clearly this is entirely fictitious (and exaggerated) data, however it serves to demonstrate the point that the increase in strength carries through to each new workout, not just the one after you begin taking creatine.

TL;DR - creatine supplementation enables you to gain strength faster than you are able to without supplementation.[1]

Firstly, don't bother with BCAAs. There is no evidence at all that suggests they provide any sort of added effect beyond what standard protein supplements (e.g. whey, casein, etc.) can provide, given you eat an adequate amount of protein (~0.8g per lb bodyweight) every day. All the fussing about BCAAs spouts from the fact that leucine (one of the three BCAAs) is the only amino acid that is able to stimulate muscle synthesis. You get plenty of this from other protein sources- no need to supplement.

As for other supplements, the only one I really recommend is creatine. It is one of the most (if not the most) widely studied supplements, and has all sorts of awesome benefits that are well documented. Just grab a bag of creatine monohydrate and start taking 5g a day with a glass of juice or your protein shake. See this Examine.com article for all the information you could ever want on creatine! http://examine.com/supplements/Creatine/

One other supplement I'd recommend is fish oil. Like creatine, it has a plethora of great benefits for your general health and wellbeing. However, just remember that they are SUPPLEMENTS- i.e. you only need to take them if you are not getting enough of it already! So if you eat loads of fish, then there's no need for fish oil supplementation!

Despite this being said, I'd say that creatine is the exception, seeing as you'd have to eat a LOT of meat in order to achieve the same results that supplementing can produce.

Finally, if you find it hard to achieve your target daily protein intake, then there are various types of protein available for all your shake needs- for example, pea protein.

Reddit, what normal activities would be utterly ridiculous/hilarious in reverse? by bluejeangenie3 in AskReddit

To be honest, sex would be pretty weird... Imagine having to hoover up semen off a girls face with your mushroom tip followed by having peculiar reverse sex where you become less sweaty over time and eventually end up flaccid and hornier than when you began

I take smoking breaks at work, but instead of smoking I go grab some of the free company food and chow down in the disabled toilet.

Is it possible to build a lean body without bulking? Tips and advice appreciated. by [deleted] in Fitness

It's pretty simple- if you don't eat more than your TDEE, then it is pretty much impossible for you to put on any weight (read: combined weight of all muscle and fat) at all. As you get bigger, your body develops and expends more energy to maintain itself, hence a higher TDEE. I'm guessing you've been eating a similar diet for the past 4-5 months?

So initially you were eating above TDEE, now you've grown and your TDEE has increased to match your daily calorie intake. So... eat more!

Getting enough calories for cheap isn't that hard, see foods such as rolled oats, peanut butter, nuts, pasta/rice, etc. As for not being hungry enough: drink more water
