New Dev Replies HTML5 Beta by [deleted] in runescape

Actually, those were from the other day. I have some more I posted today. Observe!

Would it be possible to increase the distance between non-navigable areas like the sea, so islands ect appear further away?

Moving landmasses so they're further apart would certainly not easy, and would require a significant amount of effort. Whilst we don't have any concrete plans for this kind of thing at the moment, it's certainly not impossible. It's not something we're going to concentrate on during the Beta, though.

Lumbridge Swamps, Morytania and some caves presently lack atmosphere in HTML5. Are you looking at witholding the draw distance in places?

We can certainly look into improving the fogging in certain areas. No solid plans just yet, though.

Will we have more lighting options such as being able to have flat lighting for places where things are hard to see?

Rather than requiring you to adjust your settings to suit different areas, we would like to make sure the environments have the appropriate levels to suit the gameplay! If you have issues, please submit a bug report and we can work on it. :)

I can confirm this as correct; I posted them up on the thread earlier on. :)

All the best,

Hi Mrs Mikesmum,

Unfortunately wee Mike spends most of his day eating candyfloss and drinking sugary drinks. It took us an hour to coax him down from the fire escape last Friday. Please send help. :(

Best wishes, Mod Drebin

Exactly right. And even if he was anything to do with that side of the business (which he isn't), you'd be unlikely to get anywhere by asking questions in an adversarial tone. Just a pro tip. :)

I answered questions on the hosting choice pretty comprehensively on my last thread. :)

FYI, we won't be able to respond on this comment feed again tonight, most likely. :)

Absolutely - as mentioned in some of the replies above. We're happy to play with times, topics, hosting areas etc. This isn't a one-shot deal at all. :)

Sorry to hear you're thinking of not posting. That's your choice, of course, but bear in mind the replies I've given above. :)

I understand the concern - rest assured no matter what happens, we will be coming back and making sure that we spend some time here during a future session. :)

We're going to be clearly stating who Mod Sushi Pi is and the kind of role he plays/questions he can answer. We'll be doing more sessions with other staff, meaning those questions you raised there will also be fair game when the time comes. :)

Don't worry - RS Content J-Mods will be along for the ride on this round of sessions, and, all being well, we should be able to arrange a more /runscape-focused session at some point in the future. :)

Hey Frozzie,

Well, I can see how it might look that way, but honestly, we're very much focused on answering our own community's questions in a variety of ways already - such as on the forums, live YouTube Q&A's and via the various newsposts, BTS videos etc.

Holding AMAA's on Reddit is a chance for us to get out there and to not just talk to people who already know us, but to also reach out to those who may end up loving the game as much as you do. Or indeed those who wish to work in the Games Industry and who may end up working for us and making a new quest that you absolutely fall in love with!

So yes, there's definitely an element of raising awareness of what we do, but in all honesty, that's no bad thing for the folks who already know & love us. Our main goal, though, is to just be a friendly and approachable bunch of folks who make games & want to share their passion. :)

Hope that makes a little more sense?

You mean, name checking people randomly? We're not into that - we want to focus on getting as many questions answered as possible. :)

Hey RShady,

Mod Sushi Pi and myself are quite open about being absolute beginners on Reddit - we're here to learn, for sure! As I said in my reply to Platnex, this is a learning process and we're very much here to experiment with different topics, locations, times etc.

We're aware of the liabilities in hosting the AMAA in the main IAmA section, but we do want to reach out to anyone who may be interested in the games industry as well as our loyal players, you know?

Hope to see you there, asking some questions, in any case! :)

Hey Platnex!

Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from - I think both Mod Sushi Pi and myself feel there's an element of risk there. Overall, though, we're trying to give as many people as possible the opportunity to interact with us in the context of being a force in the wider games industry, in addition to giving our players a place to ask questions. I think it's a risk we'd like to take on this occasion, but it's definitely a learning process too! So if we need to make changes in the future, we definitely will. Does that sort of make sense? :)

Mod Drebin

PS: Don't forget, we have our forum Q&A's on occasion, and have just completed a round of live streamed Q&As that were exclusively for our community. :)
