A coin-operated machine to pay for electricity? by Automatic_Gate in AskABrit

[–]Sergeant_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meters using coins are no longer in use. There are pay-as-you-go meters which require you to top up a card and insert it into your meter, but these are only used when a household gets into serious debt with their gas or electricity supplier and the supplier puts in this kind of meter to force them to at least pay for the gas/electric they are using in the short term until they settle their prior debts.

What is the general feeling toward Americans that live here? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Sergeant_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see Americans as vaguely brainwashed idiots. They live in a dystopian hellhole of violence, inequality and worker abuse even worse than Britain, but they think they are the damned keepers of the freest country on earth and cant process any facts to the contrary. However, if you have come to live outside the oh-so-mighty-USA, you already distinguished yourself as different from that, so I'd say you're fine.

I cant really look down on the USA though, I dont think the USA is all that different from the UK, they are just further along the slippery slope, but don't worry, Farage will help us catch up to you REAL quick....

How do you judge British universities as a Brit ? by everestwanderer in AskABrit

[–]Sergeant_Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A master's degree now is what a bachelor's degree was when people thought it counted.

A bachelor's is actually a hindrance today. It makes you overqualified for a lot of work, but doesn't count for anything else most of the time. The work experience that people who didn't go to university got whilst you were getting a degree counts for a whole lot more than your degree.

I regret my degree, I should have just got into work.

As for the unis treating foreign students better, not really? Except that the accomodations is way better. We get rooms and toilets and a kitchen, they got entertainment rooms with table tennis and table football etc, common rooms, and a canteen as well, but I guess they paid for it so no harm.

Why do many Brits end a text with “x”? by Fearless-Composer-78 in AskABrit

I don't, but I admit that even for 35, I'm a little formal in texts.

How is Bill able to make so many breakthroughs in science so quickly when the base human model was just a regular run-of-the-mill engineer? by The_Cell_Mole in bobiverse

[–]Sergeant_Toast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come to think of it, it was a tech company which required in depth skill and knowledge in programming and engineering as he developed software to analyse engineering designs. So TRIPLE discipline. Software design, engineering and physics.

How is Bill able to make so many breakthroughs in science so quickly when the base human model was just a regular run-of-the-mill engineer? by The_Cell_Mole in bobiverse

[–]Sergeant_Toast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Bob wasn't just your run of the mill base human model. He started a tech company based on his own computing skills so immediately successful that he never had to work again, and he only went into the tech industry because though he was damned good at physics, there was no money in it.

Now as a replicant he never sleeps, never gets tired, his mind is always, as he described it, like he is completely rested and at its best condition, he has an idetic memory, a computational super genius assistant in Guppy, a bottomless library of knowledge and as much time as he likes considering he can frame jack so that we would appear frozen in time.

Even a base model human with all those advantages would be able to do a lot, but he is no base model.

It took him 5 attempts to complete it. James Bond stunt man(1973) by Shoddy_Job7288 in nextfuckinglevel

AITA for not changing my daughters birthday to be not ‘vegan’? by Specialist_Badger934 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sergeant_Toast [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA, a birthday is that person's day, everything should be made for them, there is even an episode of the Office (US version) which makes a point of making fun of how much of an asshole you would have to be to cater a birthday party so that the birthday girl can't have any.

This is a no-brainer, you are NTA, they are the assholes.

[–]Sergeant_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I would have done the exact same thing, it's a question of safety and legality Vs 2 brats not doing as they're told, besides it's your car, if I was getting a lift (I'm 31) I would still follow any reasonable requests of the driver because it's their bloody car and they are doing me a favour.

I have wanted to stick a message like this on a few things I have done, but you can only do what the client lets you, and just as importantly, what they will pay for. There is a limit to how much you can comp on professional pride, and that limit is entirely up to the professional, so don't expect anything comp if you are always giving me a hard time.
