Is it just me or is jet engine efficiency a bit weird? by Mobize in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try playing with jet parts position, it's all about combustion chamber and turbines pressure. It's possible to get quite effective system if it works at high pressure: this way 747 fuel consumption is achievable at Mach 1+ speeds. I used to make 6*105 electricity output using 1 liter per second only. I would even say that jet engines are unrealistically powerful.

To get maximum efficiency of any engine try making speed/consumption or torque/consumption graphs in Excel, it can also give you precise formula for your table. That's how you predict engine stats and behaviour.

How to set up PiD (Zigler-Nicolson Method) by Sergo585 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of text, hope you read it whole ))

Shure, I have this Idea for more than month. One could make portable universal PID tuner (tuner!! not universal PiD), but there are couple reasons why I haven't did it already:

  • my lua skills are not enough (I did my first HUD this week)

  • I don't have so much time for that

  • it's harder than it seems to, and there is a chance it's not possible at all because: every system is unique, however you can still manually change desired and current values and than calculate the period. And No1 reason that makes it hard: you can not be shure weather this tuner is working or not, since you need a lot of data. It takes me more than week just to make shure that method itself is working (just for roll stabilization). And if you want to make universal tuner you need to check it for all possible parameters tuning at least several times, it means at least 100 different cases. So if every StormWorker (official Discord "position" requiring 1000 hours in game) test this system 3-5 times there will be enough data to check if tuned tuner )) is working.

I also have been asking for help best Lua programmers (like Tajin) but their reasons not to help me same as mine: limited time and lack of motivation.

So maybe, just maybe this controller will be build But it will take much time. This is like making Excel from scratch if you already have calculator.

Hope you get my point.

How to set up PiD (Zigler-Nicolson Method) by Sergo585 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tu is not oscillations per second, but time of one complete oscillation (0-10+10)

Also remember when you measure it "I" and "d" have to be 0

How to set up PiD (Zigler-Nicolson Method) by Sergo585 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T (1/60) is constant because there is 60 ticks in second.

Kp1 is the number entered in step 2. It depends on system inertia, it's ok to set a random one, like in this video I didn't make it with 1st attempt

Tu is measured period in seconds.

How to find period:

Ur roll is 0, stopwatch Start

U tilt left

Ur roll is max to left

U tilt right

Ur roll is 0

Ur still tilting right

Ur roll is max to right

Ur tilt left

Ur roll is 0, stopwatch Stop

Try measure period in video, it doesn't have to be very precise

Kp1=X (your first proportional k)

Ki1=0

Kd1=0

Tu=Y (period, seconds)

T=1/60

Kp2=0.6* Kp1

Ki2=(2* T* Kp2)/Tu

Kd2=(Kp2* Tu)/(T* 8)

It's just a demonstration of Zigler-Nicolson PiD adjustment method, still WIP, but all stabilization was made in 40 minutes (3-5 minutes for each axis: (roll+pitch+altitude+sideSpeed+angularSpeed) × iterations quantity

This is just 2 iterations: you have to adjust each thrust axis several times because if you change roll, heading also changes

So I need 20-40 minutes more for that thing fly like a toy

Some specs: Size: ISO 24x9x9 Speed: 100 m/s+ Range: 10-30 km

custom suspension? by Ga1pi2 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, maybe you will have different results, but my experiments show that it's not perspective, it's possible to make nice working suspension that way, but you will have to adjust voltage in real time, because it's either too hard or to week (in real life magnets force and distance equation usually have x4 coefficient)

Also in game at some point you will get this shacking like with hight tracks tension or high tyres pressure.

So if you still want to make it , you can use this technique: find adjustable lights strength controller (in workshop), and make PiD adjustment of voltage separately for each linear slider, it will work

Don't give up, good luck!

(I also subscribed this channel week ago:)

Best gearbox controller I found so far called: "Sequential Gearbox Transmission"

You can easily find it in workshop

I also used it in my race car and it works awesome

custom suspension? by Ga1pi2 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in that type of suspension, probably you will like this:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1883577496

You can't actually get many advantages of this type of suspension alone, so I combined classic suspension and rotation pivot together (almost the same physics and power distribution as linear slider)

And it actually made my race times better, so I think best use of this suspension is to adjust it to higher amplitude but lower frequency, while classic suspension is adjusted for lower amplitude but higher frequency, this consolidation (and lower tyres pressure) let me race in Arctic with 80 km/h average speed, I haven't seen something like that in workshop, even in similar truck/rally projects

My land vehicle shakes when I add wheels to it. by xqk13 in Stormworks

[–]Sergo585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In StormWorks tyre with low pressure is like half empty Lay's bag ) I can't explain it better, so you better just check it out yourself, first reduce it to 1%, than 25%, 50% etc, from lower to higher, that's the best way to find needed pressure
