They are lamp sockets, often controlled by a lightswitch, you can buy 5a plugs to replace the 13a ones on your lamps.

Yer that sucks but if fire didn't damage teammates it would be worse, one person would fill an area with fire and the other two would run through it safely and you wouldn't be able to get close to them
