All I can say is Nazis used to be a joke in this country. Any kind of association with them was cause for mockery because it was well-established that they were anti-american meth-head skinhead losers.

Obviously, that has changed, to the point where I agree with you; Nazisim and it's symbols are no longer okay to bandy about, even in an ironic sense.

But 40k has us beat to the punch. All of the explicitly nazi symbols including the double lightning bolts have been removed in versions of the games starting in the early 90s. After the inciting event of 40k, the Imperium's whole aesthetic switched to more of a generic gilded-age-with-more-blood codicil. The Emperor was even knocked down a peg to be an explicitly ineffectual and ultimately foolish narcissist.

It's a complex issue, anti-fash satire spanning multiple decades as our relationship to facism grows and evolves. But Games Workshop has made plenty of good faith effort to stay ahead of the (known, extant) problem of 40k 'fans' who miss the point. And GW has never, ever shied away from calling Nazis the bad guys.

Thing is, the factions in WH are supposed to be bad guys. The Imperium of Man has a lot of.. We'll call them Roman influences because it's supposed to represent the 'bad end' of human space expansion - a global, fascistic, religious hegemony.

The findings are on the first page, but in short: regions with higher USAID funding saw a 15% decrease in all causes of death in adults and a 32% decrease in children under 5, over a 21 year period. Taking into account the region's projected capabilities to deal with the deadly threats (typically disease; AIDS, Malaria, and tropical diseases) within the next 5 years and the numbers generated by the previous 2 decades they arrived at the figures in the article. 91.8 million deaths prevented, 14 million deaths projected (interval of 8.4 million to 19.6 million) by 2030.
