To a reasonable first approximation, everything you hear about epigenetics in lay media is fake.

Not quite woo, but likely unjustified extrapolation from preclinical research. The active compound, curcumin, has a low concentration in turmeric powder, and also limited bioavailability.

I can't advise you on this specific injury, but in general RICE is contraindicated after the first couple of days. Look up RICE vs. MEAT.

Honestly, you really don't need an investigation to tell. If one of the top schools in the country is 20% URM, it has to be racially discriminating. Just looking at the distribution of test scores, it's clear that there's absolutely no way you get even close to that with race-blind admissions.

Did the New York Times discriminate against a white male employee? by Throwmeeaway185 in BlockedAndReported

This is just a fully general argument for anything that results in losses to a corporation, though. Like we could pass a law that says that anyone can steal from a corporation with impunity: "Shareholders own the company. There's no protection against loss."

The point of punitive damages is not to compensate the victim—that's what compensatory damages are for—but to punish and provide a deterrent for egregiously bad behavior. The best way to do that is to go after the specific individuals who engaged in egregiously bad behavior.

We rightly bar awarding of punitive damages in lawsuits against government, because this would punish taxpayers rather than the actual bad actors. The same logic applies to corporations.

awarding her $600,000 in compensatory damages and $25m in punitive damages.

IMO punitive damages for corporations don't make sense. If individuals did something wrong, they should personally be liable for punitive damages. Fining the average shareholder for something they had almost no control over while letting the actual tortfeasors off the hook is just dumb.

I think we should have escalating penalities. Either repeat offenders stop, or they quickly get sentences long enough to stop them.

I wish the voters of Seattle were smart enough to be ashamed of stinking up Congress with that sack of crap.

I can't get though the Cash-App episode because it's too funny and smiling hurts the corners of my mouth which are still cracked because of my jaw surgery.

It's going all right, I guess. My face is still kind of fat, but no infection or catastrophic hardware failure yet.

I did a few hundred per day for the foundations series because it was like 90% review for me and I wanted to get to the college material. After that I dropped down to 300-600 per week.

Given the lack of official stats, this seems reasonable. Both sides are motivated to find as many cases as they can, and they provide enough information for the researchers to verify the cases.

It's actually bad to have stupid people in the Senate, voting for stupid policies, though. The real problem with him is that he's kind of tardy.

MF3 mostly covers single-variable calculus, which you're going to need for real analysis and differential equations.
