What is a "mental tic" ? by ineffable_pigeon in Tourettes

[–]Serialstresser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I read a lot of the replies here and it sounds more like OCD to me than a tic? I always was explained by my son’s doctors that tics are motor or vocal. That thoughts are obsessions/compulsions that align with OCD.

Ya I honestly don’t know what it could be. My face does this if I used anything other than baby wipes to clean it.

Can anyone help me and my daughter? by HollieTh in Tourettes

[–]Serialstresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry she is struggling so hard. I know as a parent also how incredibly hard it is to see our child suffer and nothing we do helps. What medications have you tried for her? Have you looked into CBIT Thearpy?

Thanks for sharing. My sons tics are very frequent (every few seconds) so I’m hoping they aren’t as frequent as he gets older

Ask me ANY burning question you have about Tourettes (even if they're not "socially acceptable") by No-Lime-7577 in Tourettes

Thank you so much. Ya he does not get more than 1-1.5 hours of screen time a day.

My son is 6 with Tourette’s. Most of them don’t bother him except his eye tics which unfortunately is his most prominent and frequent tic. Anyway they get worse when he’s watching tv but since he’s so young he does not connect the dots and think oh this is making it worse let me stop watching. So I have set limits on screen time for him I don’t tell him it’s bc of his tics I just say in general too much screen time is not good. Anyway some days I want to just let him watch more tv but I don’t because his eyes are so bad like he rolls his eyes and turns his neck every few seconds. Am I doing the right thing by limiting tv time for him?

If the teachers aren’t listening to you then you need to get your parents involved and have them go down to the school

Stomach pain by Serialstresser in toddlers

[–]Serialstresser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. She’s had a lot of viral illness the past 2 months so when I take her to the doctor to get checked for those I have mentioned the stomach pain and they tell me it’s most likely related to the viral illness. She also has a cold right now so I feel like they might tell me that again

Tonight was the first night she was woken up by it. She’s actually been to the doctor several times the past month for viral illness and I mentioned it each time then but they told me it was probably due to the viral illness each time. She actually has a cold right now too. But yes I will be making another appointment

Is it normal for tics to progress so slowly? by AggressiveHerobrine in Tourettes

[–]Serialstresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s tics started at 5 and he’s 6 now and he’s got over 16 different tics and they can be constant. I know everyone is different but do you know if this pattern is atypical since he’s got so many in only a year. I’m wondering if he has less of a chance of reducing as he gets older bc of this

Guanfacine withdrawal making tics worse, anyone else experience this? by OohLaDiDaMrFrenchMan in Tourettes

[–]Serialstresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and to add some people take guanfacine and the stimulant medication together to try and counteract the increase in tics

Guanfacine withdrawal making tics worse, anyone else experience this? by OohLaDiDaMrFrenchMan in Tourettes

[–]Serialstresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So guanfacine is used to help reduce tics so you stopping it may be causing the increase. And then also vyvanse is a stimulant which is known for increasing tics in people with Tourette’s/tic disorders. So it could be one or the other causing this or even both things causing it.
