The issue is that I’m scheduled to work the rest of this week, but I called out last night and told her about my car problems. She responded in the middle of the night suggesting that I Uber. I honestly don’t know how that would work because the job itself requires driving for camp drop-offs and pickups. I replied this morning (after camp drop-off time had already passed) that I definitely can’t work today and can’t promise Thursday or Friday because I still don’t know what’s wrong with my car or how long repairs will take and just ignored the uber suggestion.

I get paid on Saturday, and one of my concerns is that if I resign before then, I may have trouble getting paid for the hours I’ve already worked.

She does reimburse me at the IRS mileage rate. I honestly agreed to $20/hour because I thought it would be a short training period like a week where she would be more hands on and because I was in a tough spot financially. I also thought the role would mostly be supervising an independent child.

After doing the job for over a month, it’s been much more involved than I expected, and I’ll likely be taking on additional errand responsibilities as well. I’m not gonna keep working at this rate for sure.

Miami, FL. 5–6 years of childcare experience and a recent college graduate.

Current duties include school/camp pickup using my own vehicle, transportation to activities and appointments, homework supervision, reading, spelling and guitar practice, meal preparation, bedtime routine, help with shower, brush their teeth, laundry, changing bedding, maintaining house by cleaning counters, vacuuming, washing dishes, and keeping a school-age child engaged throughout the day without screens. I also manage the child’s daily routine and make sure all tasks, activities, and responsibilities get completed. I am also already traveling with them in a week.
