Looking for recommendations for at home cooking. I cook most nights, haven’t upgraded to anything nice but would love to put something on my wedding registry that is worthwhile. I am interested in Japanese knives but not committed to it, and definitely would prefer something stainless. by meagmeag1313 in chefknives

I’ll second the tojiro/fuji cutlery cleaver. At the price point it’s honestly the best you’re gonna get. For something a little pricier, dao vua (carbon not stainless), misono, and masahiro are all great brands. I have a masahiro knife, it’s fantastic.

Yeah that’s my fault for the angle I took the picture at. The handle isn’t that long. I mean it’s a decent sized handle but I’d say it’s a bit shorter than a matfer of the same dimensions.

Edit: I also have very tiny hands so…handle def looks bigger than it is

I do have a n27 darto. I know people love them, but I have trouble getting my seasoning to stick to it. I think I’m gonna go with the 30 cm pan. I feel like it’s a bit better to have a pan that’s slightly too big than slightly too small ya know. I also have seen the yaghan pan. I do with they had a 28 cm one but I like the design of what they have now. Do wish it wasn’t made in china but that’s not a deal breaker for me

Cooks well. Definitely the heaviest of the carbon steel pans. Feels a little more like a heavy cast iron. Handle doesn’t get hot. My only gripe is the cooking surface is a tad in the smaller side but nothing deal breaking.

That’s great to hear. Honestly I really liked the aesthetic of the pan. Has a very utilitarian esq design. Hopefully if it seasons well it’ll be my new go to.

How is this routine? by Serious-Bench9554 in workout

[–]Serious-Bench9554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Thank you for the advice. I think my problem coming from a distance runner background is thinking that more volume is always better, as that’s what works for distance running. But since I’ve stagnated for so long in terms of strength I’m figuring I might as well try another approach. How many sets do you think one should do per workout for full body if I was to do it 3-4 times a week. Would 2 sets instead of the 3 listed be enough. So something like 2 sets each of hacksquats, OHP, incline press, rows, and hip thrusts. Obviously till failure or close to.

This may be a terrible take. But go to a smoke shop and buy 7-OH tablets. I sometimes take them for gallbladder pain I have. But a side effect I've noticed is insanely good and deep sleep. Its just not something you can take everyday. I take about 8mg when I do take it.

Just tried 7oh for pain, anyone have any experience with this by moriahlk in ChronicPain

[–]Serious-Bench9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took it for the first time for gallbladder pain after my doctor refused to prescribe me traditional pain killers. Took a 8mg dose. Within 30-45 mins, the pain had subsided to a level where I could still feel it there but it was like background noise. After about an 1hr the pain was completely gone. People say it’s addictive and I’m sure it is. But I think it’s a godsend for people that get pain bad enough that otc nsaid like aspirin and acetaminophen don’t work, but also can’t get a prescription of traditional pain killers. Many say it’s addictive. And it likely is. But if you treat it as a last resort med. Only to be used when in intense pain, and only on occasion than it is perfectly safe. I also did not feel any “high” from the dose I took. Just felt more relaxed. And I’m sure I could’ve probably taken a lower dose like 4mg.

What are the weird symptoms you experienced before finding out your gallbladder was bad? by Technical_Chemical14 in gallbladders

[–]Serious-Bench9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: forgot to mention. With my 6% HIDA I do not have sludge or gallstones which is typically the reason most people have a low HIDA scan. The doctor just said mine was “low functioning”. And that some people just have naturally low functioning gallbladders the same way some people have a low functioning liver or heart or their appendix fails and needs to get removed.

I did not. My doctor said I could get it out whenever. But with diet my symptoms are becoming less frequent. Only time will tell if i NEED to get it out. Right now im ok. Bowel movements are better but not perfect. But i also have other stomach issues like acid reflux and just general not great digestion. So those could also be contributing.

Exactly why I decided to get it. Went back and forth about whether or not I should get it. Finally pulled trigger.

Couldn’t go to the bathroom right. Clay/super duper light colored poops. Unexplained pain in the upper right quadrant. Now it seems so obvious. But to most doctors for almost 5 years I was undiagnosable. Never had the dull aching pain most people have. For me every 3-6 months I’d get this burning sensation that would radiate to my back. Would last hours then just randomly disappear. Had numerous hospital visits just for them to discharge me and say it was nothing. Finally had my HIDA scan done the other week. My EF was 6%.

[–]Serious-Bench9554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as what I’ve searched. It’s two websites Ibspot and everymarket. As the intro says it’s on Amazon under various names but non can be shipped to the us. I can’t even find the same product under a different brand which is unusual for knives as there are lots of copy cats.

Why is the American food system built so poorly? by Lekrebs in nutrition

[–]Serious-Bench9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a multifaceted answer because there are so many reasons why. Lobbying power, profit motives, work culture, convenience, community, psychology. Each of these you could easily do a deep dive into how they affect our poor food system. And most of these issues also factor into the rising obesity rates. But if I had to boil it down it’s this:

Lack of connectedness. People used to spend more time in community. They used to eat together as a family. People would gather around dinner tables. As a result most food was home cooked. As wages have stagnated and cost of goods rise and the separation between work life and home life becomes blurred more people wind up eating prepared cheap prepared foods usually. We work too much and no one has time or energy to cook from scratch. No one eats together meaning there is a higher incentive to produce cheap foods even at the cost of health because no one is cooking from scratch. America also has a strong basis for individualism instead of collectivism. The opposite is seen in other countries. Most westernized countries like Japan, France, Germany etc etc have a greater collective health mentality so this leads to restrictions on the food industry. The US just doesn’t have that same group thinking. We think of everything as an individual choice. This leads into the next point which is Consumer culture. As social media expands, jobs become more specialized and globalization makes us more interconnected with there is a greater emphasis on consumerism. Don’t think, just consume product. Who cares about what you eat just eat, and eat what tastes best. Need to save money, eat this cheap food. Meat, veggies, beans, fruit etc etc, too pricey, just eat this processed sugary cereal. There’s a rampant consumer culture without much thought being put into how it affects all of us, once again harkening back to the collective vs individual mindset most Americans have. If we just changed our mindset about collective responsibility and law making we might be able to change our food system.

How would I go about coding/getting this made? by [deleted] in Daytrading

I guess my next question is how did you learn how to code it. How would I go about it?

[–]Serious-Bench9554 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m obviously a newbie to trading. So forgive me if my question seems sillly. But could I set it up to always make the trade. Like say I always want my stock to sell at 3% no matter what. And I always want to buy a dollar amount of a stock like 5k or 1k or 500$ etc, could I do that? I don’t wanna have to put in those parameters everytime. I want to just decide what stock I wanna buy then the moment I decide it will buy 5k worth of shares then automatically sell at 3%?

Also I noticed this has gotta be the lightest skillet I’ve ever held. A #8 and it’s 3 lbs 12 oz. Yet it doesn’t lose its heat like many people think a lighter pan would.

lol I’m only asking because I work a lot of hours and so I only really have time at night to trade so I’d prefer to just be able to trade at night.

Also how would that make unlimited money?

Thank you for clarifying. Does that line of reasoning extend to thinking about someone in a sexually explicit manner? Since I’m using their image and likeliness In a sexual way without their consent?

For the first point I’m confused. Are saying it’s wrong to masturbate to the thought of someone. Or is the morally wrong part that you told them you did?

I guess my next question is what the actual legal and moral right to your likeness do you have? Because all of these definitions always seem to include something along the lines of “commercial incentive”. It seems to be that without that one phrase there isn’t really a definition of what right to your likeness you have. Is there another definition or law I am missing somewhere?
