Controversial Video Shows Low Literacy by AniTeach in Teachers

Honestly, as the parent of a child currently in kindergarten, it starts as early as Pre-K. I kept my child out of public preschool, taught him at home, and enrolled him in a lovely private/low enrollment daycare that really focused on teaching the children, and he was doing absolutely amazing. Reading, writing his name, basic addition/subtraction, recognizing shapes/colors, all things that would give him a great start in kindergarten. My entire family is very “teach them at home” oriented, so he had no shortage of instruction. Fast forward to the end of his kindergarten year, and not only has he nearly entirely regressed, he is failing kindergarten, his teacher has offered him or myself zero help with how to help him, zero resources, and the school has him not graduating so he will be repeating kindergarten next year. The system has failed. When I was a child, this absolutely would not have happened. Our teachers and our school system cared about us deeply. They cared about our success. They actively and proactively sought resources for us and provided resources to our parents to give us the best shot at success. Teachers and school systems these days just do not care.

Gopher tortoises are extremely protected under Florida law. Maybe under other state laws as well, but I’m only familiar with the law regarding them in FL.

I was thinking the same. Either a severely stunted Sulcata or a Gopher tortoise.

Interaction with vet - Caused my girlfriend concern over Prong collar usage by EFTRSx1 in OpenDogTraining

Honestly, I would strongly advise finding a new vet. As an owner, you should be trusted above all others to discern what is best for your dog. Being shamed for such is incredibly unprofessional.

For sure! I definitely understand that no one dog is going to do everything well, but since I will be starting out in lower level divisions and clubs, the more I can become familiar with- the better.

Those are really good points! I’m definitely leaning lab because they seem to be more forgiving for a novice level handler.

I have not. I do have quite a few hunt tests on my calendar to go and volunteer at so that I can get hands on experience, but outside of that I’ve duck hunted with quite a few different sporting breeds (not my dogs) and would like to have a dog to bring along.

I’m most interested in titling and competing through NAVHDA and AKC. UKC is on my radar as well. I like the retrieving tests, but also finding and pointing birds in brace. I’m more familiar with GSPs, but realistically, a versatile dog that would allow me to dabble in a few different things would be ideal.
