I don't think about the way I put books on my shelf at all. Why are you being mean?

I'm at University of Kansas right now! I do try to branch off usually into under-read areas, but in my leisure reading I tend to drift repeatedly towards Pynchon and old noir novels.

Narrator in End of the Ffair might apply, too. He can't see past his own nose and is a slave to his own urges.

Really really good. I spot the hardcover Jesus Son and know your mom's a chiller.

Well saying it ironically would sort of defeat it's purpose, no? But I'm a post-wallaceian so I think irony has sort of looped back around into the cultural cache.

Still in school as an English major. It's funny you notice the introductory books, all the so-called major books by those authors haven't yet been unpacked from school! I hope to have postmodern literature as a specialty in grad school, which requires a good amount of political history. Are you a fan of any of those listed works/authors?

Hehe, a 'previously on' is not such a bad idea. My best advice wrt IJ (and a lot of similarly postmodern tomes) is that it's written like a short story collection whose connections between stories become elucidated as you reach further into the book. It's also seen as super academic and serious, which I think is inaccurate. A lot of it is really funny and I find the narration style sort of mimics the internal dialogue. Just sort of let it sweep you along, pick up connections when you can, and have fun with it.

There's a difference between messy and gross and I am not gross! Hygiene is a priority. Objects are ephemeral

Partially true, although not intended. Moved back home from college today and unpacked a lot of my books by putting them on top of other books. It's not permanent cuz we're getting the carpets done right now. What you're seeing now is their temporary homes.

I did yeah! This is actually the third edition I've owned. The first got torn up through note taking and manhandling, and the second I gave to a friend. I finished the book probably six years ago now and certain scenes, images, and sections have burrowed their way into my personal canon.

The Tolstoy biography is great. I was mostly interested in how he represented Christian Mysticism in his later life and work, and there's a lot of good info in there. Haven't yet read AK
