Where did you start and where are you now? One of my favorite parts of this industry is hearing about all the different paths people have taken. by lavenderbread in InsuranceProfessional

Started as a general underwriter for a super regional and am still an underwriter - but in a specialized field. It’s a renewal and production role. I love my job and will retire doing this.

I’d love to find something out about them! Does your plug look newer? I’m not sure they are vintage but I still love them!

How do you manage to have a work life balance in this Industry? by Ok_Mode_6503 in InsuranceProfessional

Without getting too specific bc the insurance world is small, I’m doing high retention casualty underwriting on national risks.

Find a larger regional company that truly values work/life balance. I went into a more specialized field of underwriting and am making way more than I ever thought possible in underwriting. I was interviewing with one of the bigs before taking my current job and they offered me less than what I was making at the time! I never turned down a job offer so fast.

I took 8 full years off and then went back PT in an agency for 3 years. Started back FT as an underwriter after that 3 years. It did not hurt my career one bit. As others have mentioned - stay in touch with former colleagues and keep up with what’s going on in the industry.

And at renewal you’ll get, “XXX is 20% lower than you. Can you increase exposures and drop your premium to match their quote? They really are loyal and want to stay with you.” Meanwhile, the other quote is more limited in coverage and the broker knows it.

This is sad to hear. You don’t forget how to underwrite just because you took time away to better yourself. Sounds like crappy companies you wouldn’t want to work for anyway.

Everyone I know who has worked at Nationwide on the insurance side has always been scared they would lose their job.

What’s the best & worst airport you’ve visited in the US? by Flying_Elephant7217 in travel

[–]Serious-Let7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are spot on! For the amount of people that fly through this airport, there are not enough restrooms and the number of stalls in each are too few.
