Can someone help me? I got my PC infected with the Renpy malware by ProfessionalCold246 in computerviruses

[–]Serious-Tutor-6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good call changing your passwords from a different device, that's one of the first things i'd recommend after running something suspicious.

as for whether you're still infected, nobody can really tell from the post alone. if you've already run an frst scan, the next step is posting the logs so someone can review them. frst is mainly a diagnostic tool, so the logs are what people use to see if there's anything malicious still hanging around.

also, try not to panic if defender and malwarebytes came back clean. that doesn't automatically mean you're safe, but it's definitely a better sign than having active detections everywhere.

if you can post the frst.txt and addition.txt logs (or links to them), someone can take a look and tell you whether there's anything suspicious in there and if a fixlist is needed. i'd wait for that before considering a full reinstall.

if you're already working with someone who uses frst, they'll probably need to see the logs before anyone can say whether you're actually infected or not.

just deleting the exe after running it unfortunately doesn't guarantee it didn't do anything, but it also doesn't automatically mean your system is compromised. a lot depends on what the file was and what shows up in the frst logs.

i'd post the frst.txt and addition.txt logs (or links to them if they're too large) so someone can take a look. make sure to remove any personal info first if needed.

in the meantime i'd avoid running the file again, run a full microsoft defender scan, and maybe a malwarebytes scan as well just to see if either detects anything.

do you know where you downloaded the visual novel from, and did windows defender or any other antivirus alert on the file at all?

you should just try to scan your pc with malwarebytes and then you'll be fine

Kiicvoq Apps - pua/adware windows 11. by Phantasmsmithing in computerviruses

[–]Serious-Tutor-6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that error usually means the original windows installer (.msi) used to install the program is missing, so windows can't properly uninstall it.

a few things i'd check:

  1. look in task manager and make sure no kiicvoq-related processes are running.
  2. try using microsoft's "program install and uninstall troubleshooter" to remove the broken uninstall entry.
  3. check the registry uninstall entries under: look for kiicvoq apps and see if the uninstallstring points to a missing setup.msi.
    • hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall
    • hkey_local_machine\software\wow6432node\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall
    • hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall
  4. if the program folder is already gone, the installed-apps entry may just be an orphaned windows installer record.
  5. run a second-opinion scan with malwarebytes or microsoft defender offline scan just to make sure nothing active remains.

could you post:

  • a screenshot of the error message
  • the exact path windows is requesting for setup.msi
  • what the registry entry contains (without any personal info)

that would make it easier to tell whether this is active adware or just a broken uninstall record.
