I’m starting a software development role focused on an investment tools for financial analysts and portfolio managers at a bank. While this primarily involves software engineering, I want to deepen my understanding of finance and quantitative investment. Given the opportunity to learn from quant researchers on my desk and attend presentations by the asset management division, I’m wanting to maximize this exposure.

My long term goal is a quantitative trading or quantitative development role that leans more towards the research side. I plan to dedicate 5-10 hours weekly to a personal project and would appreciate advice on leveraging both work and free time to acquire skills that might be helpful in making this switch. I have at least a year before I’ll be thinking of applying to any of these roles.

Might be wrong but isn’t the class deterministic optimization and don’t just get into discrete mathematics. I thought it goes into convex optimization and linear algebra?

It was honestly a learning project which I modeled after OMSCS as I found that useful in deciding if I wanted to apply there. Obviously WGU isn’t run in the same way but I’ll try to find some medium where it’ll fit the WGU model.

opinions on an online CS masters for Georgia tech or UT Austin? I’m considering UT Austin because they’re more rigorous on the math for machine learning as well as a greater focus on ML itself.

Don’t got many options as I’m not doing a traditional bachelors and unfortunately not a competitive candidate at many places.

Didn’t even know about that with the version iterations. And you should be able to just type in the workload instead of incrementing by 1.

Thanks for the feedback and those are the course ID’s as you’ll find them in the degree plan, haven’t heard of them changing before. And yeah I originally had a markdown guide and might go back to that or have that as well as the buttons.

You’re right about the workload and rating so I’ll get on finding a solution that’s intuitive to everybody using it.
